SAIGON, VIETNAM: HBO Max's latest series, 'The Sympathizer', transports viewers to the 1970s, introducing them to the war-torn landscape of Vietnam.

Drawing from historical events such as the fall of Saigon, the show presents a fictionalized narrative centered on a South Vietnamese army Captain (portrayed by Hoa Xuande) who secretly serves as a spy for North Vietnam.

The series made its debut on Sunday, April 14, 2024, and showcased South Vietnam's General's desperate attempt to escape the country as North Vietnam assumed power after the US withdrew its aid.

The episode ended on a cliffhanger, leaving the fans wondering about the Captain's fate amid the bombing on the airstrip.

When is 'The Sympathizer' Episode 2 releasing?

HBO Max will be following the weekly release schedule for 'The Sympathizer. Accordingly, Episode 2 will release on the network next Sunday, April 21, at 9 pm ET.

The upcoming episode is titled 'Good Little Asian' and is expected to have a runtime of 55-60 minutes.

What to expect in 'The Sympathizer' Episode 2?

The historical black comedy series revolves around a spy who was embedded in the South Vietnam army. Amid the fall of Saigon, he has to flee with his General (Toan Le) to the United States.

The official synopsis reads, "The Sympathizer is an espionage thriller and cross-culture satire about the struggles of a half-French, half-Vietnamese communist spy during the final days of the Vietnam War and his new life as a refugee in Los Angeles, where he learns that his spying days aren't over."

The pilot episode ended with suspense, leaving fans wondering if he took the plane or decided to stay back in Vietnam.

The upcoming episode will reveal that he finally reaches the US and takes refuge in a community in Los Angeles. While struggling with the new culture and challenges of being a refugee, he is likely to continue his mission as a spy.
