Singing with Sting to coffee with Hillary Clinton: MayDay COVID-19 Charity Auction offers fans a virtual treat
Sotheby's and Google are joining forces to hold an auction, titled 'MayDay COVID-19 Charity Auction', featuring virtual interactions with celebrities and other leading figures. Using Google Meet video calls, the auction will offer up a chance for fans to share in experiences with celebrated artists as a means to benefit those affected by the coronavirus pandemic. 'MayDay COVID-19 Charity Auction' comes as a fundraising effort to benefit the International Rescue Committee (IRC) and will take place from May 1-8. The bidding for each experience will start at $50 and there are no minimums.
The IRC's Who We Are page explains, "The International Rescue Committee responds to the world's worst humanitarian crises, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic wellbeing and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster. See a timeline of the IRC's rich history."
According to the auction's official site, Sotheby's CEO Charles F Stewart said, “Sotheby’s has a long tradition of supporting charitable organizations in times of need." He continues, "We are proud to bring our centuries of experience and the power of our online auctions to bear against the impact of COVID-19." Stewart concluded his message by saying, "With the partnership of Google and so many leading figures who have pledged to support this unique venture, we hope to be able to deliver meaningful resources for the extraordinary efforts of the International Rescue Committee, needed now more than ever.”
Apart from notably interesting offers of having a virtual coffee with Hillary Clinton or with former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, amongst several others, fans can get a chance to meet and interact with musical celebs. Grammy Award-winning Sting is giving fans a chance to record a song with him at his home studio in England and New York rock and roll outfit The Strokes are giving fans a chance to enjoy a video conversation with them.
