SUMMERVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA: Donald Trump made the Internet gasp in laughter after he bizarrely claimed that windmills are “driving whales a little batty” and killing them “in numbers never seen before.”

The 77-year-old former US president made the outlandish claim while addressing a huge crowd at a rally in the town of Summerville in South Carolina on Monday 25 September.

During the address, the 2024 hopeful expressed that he is against a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration rule change that would decrease boat speed limits to protect North Atlantic right whales, according to Daily Mail.

He claimed that the boat is not the real killer here as one whale in 50 years had been killed off the South Carolina coastline after being hit by a speeding vessel.

''But on the other hand, their windmills are causing whales to die in numbers never seen before. Nobody does anything about that,'' Trump said without providing any evidence.

''The windmills are driving them crazy. They're driving the whales I think a little batty and they're washing up on shore at levels never seen before and they want to stop your boats,'’ he continued.

What does Donald Trump say about the Biden administration?

In August, the Republican-controlled House Appropriations Committee attempted to delay the implementation of NOAA's speed restriction regulations until new monitoring technology was prepared.

The new regulation would have lowered the 10-knot speed limit that presently applies to vessels longer than 65 feet to vessels between 35 and 65 feet in places where right whales were identified by NOAA to be present.

On Monday, Trump claimed that the proposed speed was like that of a ''small golfcart."

''This is supposedly in the name of preventing whale strikes but you have a better chance of being struck by lightning than hitting a whale with your boat,'' the ex-president said.

Trump then slammed the Biden administration, saying that the ''Biden speed limit'' would ''demolish the charter fishing business, crush boat manufacturers and desecrate your cherished Low Country traditions.''

''That's why today I'm announcing that when I'm reelected on day one, I will cancel Biden's ridiculous speed limit regulations,'' Trump said in front of the cheering crowd.

Trump declared that he would be able to preserve the whales even if the speed limitations were repealed.

''We will take care of the whales but we will also take care of the workers, the voters, the fishermen of South Carolina, we'll take good care of them, all of them, including the whales," he said.

''We will not allow crooked Joe to destroy the South Carolina way of life,'' he pledged.

How did the internet react to Donald Trump’s bizarre claims?

Trump’s bizarre claims concerning the windmills have garnered immense social media attention, with one user saying “The pressure has gotten to him and he’s completely detached from reality!”

“You literally could never make this stuff up if you tried, but the SNL skits will write themselves. “The windmills are driving the whales a little batty” tells you all you need to know about his fitness for duty. Deranged and impossibly stupid are descriptors that come to mind,” a second user said.

“Who writes his speeches? Ron Burgundy?” a third user wrote while another user asserted, “The first thing that comes to mind is a song by the band Slayer - 'Criminally Insane'.”

“Wait, what? DJT and the Trumpets are concerned about the ENVIRONMENT?” one more joked.
