'The Rook' Season 1 episode 6 review: Myfanwy attempts to piece together her forgotten life as Linda prepares to tell all her secrets

Myfanwy is trying to make things right with the Gestalts in 'The Rook' Chapter 6, but they seem to have closed off to her tired of all her lies.
UPDATED AUG 5, 2019

As we edge closer towards the finale of miniseries ‘The Rook,’ the foggy mysteries seem to be clearing out one at a time- not just for Myfanwy (Emma Greenwell), but also for everyone around her.

In the most recently premiered Chapter 6, we see Myfanwy coming clean to Conrad (Adrian Lester) about getting her memory wiped clean a week prior, and that Linda (Joey Richardson) is the only one who knew about it. Meanwhile, the Gestalts (Jon Fletcher, Ronan Raftery, and Catherine Steadman) all learn that Myfanwy manipulated their feelings to advance her own cause. Monica (Olivia Munn) is grappling with the revelation that her late boyfriend was possibly playing her, and she begins to question everything in her life.

One of the biggest shocks for Checquey this episode was to find out that Linda has way too many skeletons in her closet, ones that she hid from Conrad, the man she worked “shoulder-to-shoulder” with for several years. The statements that Myfanwy gave Conrad proved that she probably has done things that betrayed the very organization – evil as it maybe – she works for, and she has hell to pay. Despite her Hail Mary attempt to get Jennifer (Gina McKee) to go back on her decision to fire her, it seems like she is currently trapped in a prison of her own making.

Myfanwy, meanwhile, is finding the answers to her infinite questions, one by one. She spends the day with her sister that she doesn’t remember, in a house that means nothing to her. However, by the end of her visit, she finds herself thinking back on a slice of memory from her past, allowing her to hope for more. She is convinced that the answers lie with the Gestalts, and goes to try and convince them to see how they (everyone but Alex) can help her regain her memory – but they have had enough of Myfanwy and her lies.

Monica tries to drown her feelings in booze, but it doesn’t seem to be working. However, she does realize that she has seen Myfanwy’s sister before and that she worked with her ex. Just how long has she been getting played? It remains to be seen. However, comfort comes in the form of Alex, whose physical reactions to her is his own, and shared by his siblings.

Despite not involving much physicality, motions or even exposed skin, the scene between Monica and Alex is arguably the most sensual scene on ‘The Rook.’ It remains to be seen how this physical interaction between them would affect Myfanwy’s life – love life, specifically.

Myfanwy is potentially going to find out everything she wants to know in Chapter 7, seeing as Linda has promised her that she is ready to give her all the answers. We are excited to find out the truth of Myfanwy’s life come Sunday, August 11.
