'The Purge' Season 2 Episode 9 spoilers tease a nightmare for Marcus as his relentless neighbors attack

As Marcus, his wife Michelle, his ex-wife Tonya, and her new man gear up to counter-attack the imminent surge of violence from his neighbors, the outside paints a different picture

The upcoming Episode 9 of 'The Purge' Season 2 starts hours into the annual purge. With violence reigning the night where all crimes including murder are legal for 12 consecutive hours, half the people are struggling to stay safe in their houses under lockdown, while others are actively preying on those not as fortunate.

We know Marcus and Michelle Moore fall into the category of the former, as they have their threat from the previous year — the neighbors, flocking around their house to purge Marcus, and whoever gets in the way.

However, if the official promo teaser is to be believed, not all the purgers from Marcus' predominantly white neighbors are in it for personal gains.

As Marcus, his wife Michelle, his ex-wife Tonya, and her new man gear up to counter-attack the imminent surge of violence from his neighbors, the outside paints a different picture.

The neighbors, under Clint's leadership, approach the house and unable to get in, decide to break the main door that serves the lockdown, by pulling at it hard enough using a rope tied to a truck. In all of this, one of the neighbors — Sam Tucker's wife, is asked by another neighbor if she has ever purged before.

To Sam's shock and surprise, his wife answers in the affirmative, and there's a look of slightly unnerved lack of faith in Sam, where you can almost tell that suddenly everybody is second-guessing their motive in purging Marcus and his family.

The group of neighbors out to purge Marcus is mainly serving Clint's purpose of avenging his wife's death at Marcus' hands years ago. They don't have any ulterior agenda, except Sam of course, who may or may not be still in love with Michelle, even after their short fling ended a year ago.

It's obvious that Clint's manipulation and conditioning have been driving them forward. These people are grown adults who can think for themselves but are probably afraid of being purged by the grieving, maniacal Clint for whom, avenging his wife's death is a priority.

When he hears the group chat amongst themselves, Clint butts in; he can't afford to have distractions. He blows off the group's little chat, calling it 'Purge jitters' before making their first kill.

Inside the Moore family's home however, the picture is different. Everybody is there because they want to be there for Marcus. The whole reason his ex-wife and her new partner are in the house is that she insisted she couldn't have Marcus and Michelle spent the night all by themselves.

So when they spot the neighbors approaching, Marcus decides to reason with the relentless Clint and his followers out for blood. To no avail, Marcus turns towards Michelle and tells her "If we had to fight back, it'll be self-defense."

He adds: "Just promise me, no matter what happens that we won't turn on each other," and right then the neighbors light a rag on fire and aim it straight at Marcus' windows, setting the entire corner ablaze.

Catch the rest on 'The Purge' Season 2 Episode 9 airing on Tuesday at 9 pm only on USA Network.
