This article contains spoilers for Season 2 Episode 7

In the final moments of tonight's Episode 7 of 'The Purge' Season 2, we finally get to see the build-up to the next annual purge.

The timeline fast forwards to two days prior to the next purge, and the families have advanced shockingly. On one hand, we have the very solemn Moores sitting over their dining table with Marcus pondering over a leaflet while wife Michelle hands him his morning coffee.

The camera pans to show the rest of the table, and instead of an elaborate breakfast spread, there's a wide array of guns and ammo. The Moores have prepared for this night for over a hundred days now and they are not leaving any scope for their attackers to come out victorious.

This shift from Marcus going anti-purge and shocked at getting purged to full-on pro-violence hasn't been sudden.

The evolution has been gradual and steady as he finds out more and more about just why his predominantly white (surprise, surprise!) neighborhood is out to purge him, a successful young black man with a hot wife.

But speaking of gradual progression in dynamics, Esme, after finally coming clean to Ryan and getting allowed to stay back at their hideout, not only overstays her welcome but indulges in making a home out of the place alongside Ryan.

The two are a couple as of two days before the next annual purge, and predictable as that was, there's no denying that the longevity of this happily ever after isn't very promising.

However, while Esme and Ryan's fling is burning, things seem to have died down on the romantic side of Ben's life. After finding out the truth about Ben moonlighting as the Campus Killer, Kelen tries to flee from him and meets with an accident that leaves her body bloody and mangled on the road.

Ben being present there, walks up to her, and strangles her to death in the mostly empty road with sparse traffic. That was a hundred days before the next purge, and now, just two days from the purge, we see Ben walking down the streets back in the city and looking at purge masks on display at various shops.

As teased earlier in the episode, the Campus Killer mask is the most sought after one this purge and Ben can be seen basking in the glory of what he has managed to unravel.

There's suspense, tension, and an overall sinister vibe that prepares us for the next purge after the year leading up to it manages to leave us traumatized by how morbid the conditioning and facade of the NFFA is amongst the regular citizens.

'The Purge' Season 2 airs on Tuesdays at 9 pm only on the USA Network.
