CNN is teaming up with Blumhouse Television to come out with a riveting series about a mother who fought against the Ku Klux Klan after the lynching of her son. The series, titled ‘The People V The Klan’, tells the true story of Beulah Mae Donald, a Black mother in Alabama, who took down the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) after the brutal murder and lynching of her son, Michael Donald, in 1981.

On March 21, 1981, Beulah's youngest child, Michael Donald was lynched by members of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK), he was beaten and choked, had his throat slit, and was hanged from a tree. Two years later two men were convicted of murdering Michael. However, a lawyer suggested to Beulah that she should sue the KKK for the lynching and she agreed. On February 12, 1987, after six years, a $7 million judgment was passed in her favor.

The series will closely follow the unfortunate incident and how a mother did not lose hope while fighting one of the most notorious groups in the US. The series will be premiering exclusively with back-to-back episodes on CNN on Sunday, April 11, 2021.
