'The Old Man & The Gun': Robert Redford pulls off a string of bank heists in gripping new trailer

A brand new trailer for the upcoming drama 'The Old Man & the Gun' by Fox Searchlight is finally here and it looks every bit as gripping as the name. Based on the true story of Forrest Tucker — the expert conman who was known for making a career out of bluffing authorities and organizing skillful bank heists — the movie stars Robert Redford in the lead role of the lifelong criminal. Despite his crimes and deception, Tucker maintained a facade of a perfect gentleman throughout — which only adds to the intrigue around his character.

Coming from 'A Ghost Story' and 'Ain’t Them Bodies Saints' filmmaker, David Lowery — who is going to write and direct the film — starring next to Redford will be Casey Affleck in the role of the mastermind detective who achieves the impossible and finally catches Forrest Tucker for good. What makes the trailer so extraordinarily is the remarkable 16mm cinematography by Joe Anderson of 'Don’t Think Twice'. The trailer is visually exquisite and engaging.

Redford has also announced that he will be retiring after this film making 'The Old Man & The Gun' the actor's last on-screen performance. If the last two trailers are any proof, it's going to be one solid movie to retire with.

The film that will screen at the Toronto International Film Festival next month also stars Sissy Spacek in the role of the woman who is in love with Tucker. Danny Glover, Tika Sumpter and Tom Waits will also be joining the cast. 'The Old Man & the Gun' will hit the theaters on September 28.

The official synopsis of the movie reads: 'THE OLD MAN & THE GUN' is based on the true story of Forrest Tucker (Robert Redford), from his audacious escape from San Quentin at the age of 70 to an unprecedented string of heists that confounded authorities and enchanted the public. Wrapped up in the pursuit are detective John Hunt (Casey Affleck), who becomes captivated with Tucker’s commitment to his craft, and a woman (Sissy Spacek), who loves him in spite of his chosen profession.
