How well do we really know about the porn industry? Most of us don’t even know what kind of efforts go into making an adult movie and the kind of production that goes into making a finished product. However, the new Netflix series sheds a light on how the Japanese adult film industry became so massive.

The Naked Director’ is based on the novel ‘Zenra Kantoku Muranishi’ by Nobuhiro Motohashi. The series follows the life of Toru Muranishi (Takayuki Yamada), who always wanted to achieve something big and suffered a lot of setbacks when he tried to turn Japan’s porn industry on its head. It also focuses on the obstacles he faced while doing his work and how the government never really liked him.

Release date

Season 2 of ‘The Naked Director’ will be premiering exclusively on Netflix on Thursday, June 14.

Air time and how to live stream

According to the Netflix press site, the Japanese show will air on June 24 at 3 am ET. Viewers can subscribe to the platform’s free trial to watch the first season. On the other hand, they can choose to take any of the subscription plans that the platform offers.

Plot

The official synopsis reads, “As the new Japanese Heisei era began in 1989, Muranishi (Takayuki Yamada) stood at the summit of the adult video world, putting out a large number of videos in his themed series. However, none of them reached the legendary status of “I Like It S&M Style,” the masterpiece he produced with Kuroki (Misato Morita). Kuroki yearns to produce another work with Muranishi, but this desire is left unfulfilled as a gap slowly forms between them. During this time, Muranishi is urged to expand into satellite broadcasting. Moving toward his grand dream of “raining porn from the sky,” Muranishi gathers more capital. Seeing this, Kawada (Tetsuji Tamayama) questions Muranishi’s decisions. However, Muranishi ignores the opinions of his close ally Kawada and breaks from him in order to launch a new company, Diamond Visual, where he begins to promote new actresses, including Mariko Nogi (Yuri Tsunematsu).”

Cast

All the major cast members are expected to return for season 2. Takayuki Yamada will be reprising the role of Toru Muranishi in the upcoming season while Tetsuji Tamayama will be playing the character of Kawada. Actress Yuri Tsunematsu will portray the character of Mariko Nogi.



 

Shinnosuke Mitsushima will be back as Toshi and Misato Morita will be playing Megumi.

Creators

Created by Masaharu Take, the show is based on the novel written by Nobuhiro Motohashi. Meanwhile, Kosuke Nishi, Yoshitatsu Yamada, Eiji Uchida, and Kana Yamada have penned the script.

Yasuhito Tachibana and Hiroyuki Akune are producing the project while Kaata Sakamoto, Taro Goto, and Masaharu Take serve as executive producers.
