'The Masked Singer': Who is Taylor Dayne? Popcorn eliminated and revealed as singer-songwriter
The semifinal episode of 'The Masked Singer' on Wednesday night saw the "Super Six" list being slashed in half. Only three performers were moving ahead to the finale and the other three masked celebrities were about to be eliminated and unmasked. The Seahorse was defeated by the Crocodile and her elimination was the first to be announced during the episode. The second pair to go head to head against each other was the Jellyfish and Mushroom. The latter managed to power through to the finale and the former was about to be unmasked at the end of the episode along with Seahorse. The last pair to perform in the semifinals was the season's favorite, The Sun going up against the Popcorn.
Popcorn went first, and performed Tina Turner's 'Better Be Good To Me'. This was her best performance to date on the show and everyone was up and grooving in the studio. It was then time for the Sun to take the stage. "I decided to do the show for fun. I feel like a five-year-old again. I had a really hard time expressing my feelings but here I am not holding back. I now have a hunger and drive in me to win this thing," the Sun said in her clue package that aired before her performance.
She said she was about to be singing a soul-baring song for the semi-finals and performed an acoustic version of 'When the Party's Over' by Billie Eilish. Even though there was no background music or dancers while the Sun went at it, the impact of the song was such that it left Nicole Scherzinger and guest judge Craig Robinson in tears. "I could listen to you forever, you have the voice of the heavens. You are flawless," Nicole said fighting back tears. "All my life I have felt the heat of the Sun. I had never heard the voice of the Sun until now," Craig said.
With that performance, there was no way that the Sun was going home. She advanced to the finale and Popcorn was announced as the one to be eliminated. "I had a ball, nobody understands how amazing this show is," said singer-songwriter Taylor Dayne who emerged from under the Popcorn mask.
