The James Dalton Highway is one of the most dangerous roads in the country. It is spread across 414 miles through the Alaskan wilderness from Fairbanks to Deadhorse and the Arctic ocean. The road was built in 1974, and it is used mostly to transport oil. It crosses through forests, tundras, steep grades, and the Yukon River. One of the major reasons for the danger in it is its remoteness. It is stretched across 240 miles without any gas stations.
Another road indicated in the list is Million dollar Highway, Colorado. This road is officially called US Route 550. The road is named after one early traveler who claimed that she would need to be paid $1 million to drive it again. The road passes through Red Mountain Pass in the San Juan Mountains. It has a lot of steps and climbs with U-turns. The highway is more than 11,000 feet above sea level. It spans through Silverton to Ouray, Colorado.
The next road, the most dangerous on the list, includes US Route 1, Florida. According to the study, Florida has 17 of the 100 roads which are the most dangerous in the country. Florida is one of the states in the nation that does not have a ban on using a handheld cell phone while driving. The southern end of the route is called as Overseas Highway, which connects the Florida Keys to Miami.
Maui, Hawaii road to Hana is another road enlisted in the list. This 52-mile road connects Kahului to Hana. It has 620 turns and 59 narrow bridges and offers amazing views of mountains and tropical foliage. Since there is danger associated while traveling on this road, the Hawai Tourism Authority also suggests traveling with a tour company than solo travel.
Montana Highway 2 is another road on the list. The road stretches across the northern end of Florida. Though the region is one of the most mountainous regions it has a 70 mph speed limit. The road has a remote nature and also lacks emergency help. The average EMS response time in Montana was about 45 minutes in 2021. Another road on the list is the 181-mile-long highway stretched across connecting Las Vegas and Los Angeles. A quarter of the crashes occurring on that section of the I-15 involved a drunk driver.
Interstate 10, Arizona, runs through Florida to California. The road is a 300-mile stretch through Arizona and is extremely prone to accidents. They lack guardrails and a center barrier separating opposing sides, creating a greater risk for rollovers and head-on collisions.
