'The Good Place' Season 4: Shawn's demon may hold the key to Michael's team winning the experiment and saving humanity

In NBC's six-webisode series 'The Good Place Presents: The Selection', we see Shawn trying to protect the demons' way of life at any cost
UPDATED SEP 17, 2019

Ahead of the Season 4 premiere of 'The Good Place,' NBC has released a limited web series to prepare us for the final episodes, and if you ding-dongs were paying attention, you'd have found an Easter Egg by now.

We already know that the Judge (Maya Rudolf) has asked Michael (Ted Danson) and Shawn (Marc Evan Jackson) to do an experiment on a bunch of humans. To make the playing field even, Shawn and his demons get to select the humans for the experiment, while Michael and his team of humans, along with Janet (D'Arcy Carden), get to the run the fake Good Place neighborhood.

Towards the end of Season 3, we learned the identities of the two humans the demons introduced in the experiment—Simone (Kirby Howell-Baptiste) and an insensitive blogger who made Tahani's (Jameela Jamil) life miserable. Shawn clearly landed on these two because he knows how their presence will make it near impossible for Tahani and Chidi not to ruin the experiment.

While Chidi found a solution to this by deciding to erase his own memory, hoping that he and Eleanor (Kristen Bell) can find their happily ever after, in the infinity dot of Jeremy Bearimy, Tahani is struggling to keep her cool. It definitely looks like the demons have an upper hand in the experiment as of now, and we are yet to meet the humans who are supposed to subconsciously torture Eleanor and Jason (Manny Jacinto).

In the six-webisode series titled 'The Good Place Presents: The Selection', we get to attend the meeting called by a worried and furious Shawn who wants to protect that demons' way of life at any cost. From the painstaking task of ordering food together to going through the process of eliminating good and bad ideas, the series gives us a glimpse of the inner workings of the Bad Place.

If you haven't watched 'The Good Place Presents: The Selection' yet, be sure to check that out on NBC’s website.

By the end of the series, we see something out of place—a demon who is unsure about bring cruel and unfair. When Shawn comes up with the idea to find the humans that would hinder the running of a fair experiment, one of the demons points out that instead of proving that the current system works, their plan actually proves that it doesn't.

The rest of the demons acknowledge the issue, but Shawn is certainly triggered by his conscience and we could see him helping Michael and team out in some way.

We will figure out how when 'The Good Place' season 4 premieres on NBC on Thursday, September 26.
