‘The Good Doctor’ Season 3 Episode 13: Morgan Reznick lashes out at her ill mother and fans find it upsetting
Morgan Reznick (Fiona Gubelmann) is anything but sensitive or emotional like Dr. Claire Browne (Antonia Thomas), or most people around her. And that has been established time and again. It’s not to say that she doesn’t feel the same emotions; she very much does. It is just that her way of handling emotions can sometimes be seen as curt and heartless. Take this week’s event for instance. In the episode ‘Sex and Death’, Morgan suddenly sees her mother, Caroline, who is visiting Dr. Aaron Glassman(Richard Schiff) for some diagnosis. In the middle of an interaction with her daughter, Morgan's mom collapses and is instantly admitted. Further diagnosis shows that she is suffering from a terminal neural malfunction that needs to be operated soon. While she is in recovery, Morgan tries to vent out to her sick mother. This comes out through frustration and harsh words, which sends her mother into another convulsion. This upsets the fans more than they already are and they think that she is being inconsiderate.

Another fan, upset at Morgan's reaction especially when her mother is severely ill says, “YALL THAT HAS TO BE THE MOST UPSETTING THING IVE EVER SEEN WHY DOES ANYHTING WITH MORGAN MAKE ME CRY #TheGoodDoctor”
Other fans are quite angry at Morgan’s way of dealing with a sick patient. They say, “What the.... did Morgan think was going to happen? Her mom may deserve her anger, but she could wait. #TheGoodDoctor”
Having said that, some fans could also understand where Morgan is coming from. She has a lot of angst held inside against her famous artist mother who apparently ignored her ‘not so creative’ daughter while she was growing up. This perhaps left a lot of emotional void in Morgan and she channeled those suppressed emotions into her cold, stern behavior. Now, after years, when she found the opportunity and knows that her mother is dying, she couldn’t help but release it all at once.
One fan felt that “That whole moment with Morgan and her mom was so heart wrenching. #TheGoodDoctor”
Moral of the story, as fans see here is that though Morgan tries hard to keep herself from the influence of her family, she cannot also deny that she carries traces of her mother’s characteristics. And as this fan says, “Morgan is exactly like her mother #TheGoodDoctor”. We would also have to agree.
The pride, the stubbornness and the strong-headed attitude Morgan has is what she might have gotten from her mother. But will her behavior turn out to be a bit too harsh for Caroline to handle in her weak moments?
