When Amazon boss Jeff Bezos had personally announced that the company's streaming service - Prime Video would be taking up the then recently canceled sci-fi thriller 'The Expanse' for the fourth season, the stakes were already high. At the intersection of good science fiction meeting an all over skillfully weaved dramatic plot, 'The Expanse' was met with rave reviews for the first three years of its run on the SyFy network. And now, as it gears up to arrive courtesy of its new, high-end home, the anticipation builds up over whether the show will be able to deliver the same tight, gripping content it has in the past. And if the trailer is to be believed, they are already off to a great start!

In an alien-meets-politics plot, the trailer teases season 4 meandering through the realms of a new planet amidst political tension for power running rife. Questions revolving around authority over these celestial bodies arise too, as the fight is divided into primarily two groups of people - the inhabitants of the New Terra or Ilus, and the Belters.

On one hand, we have the people at the Royal Charter Energy (RCE), who have christened Ilus with the new name purely to establish their claim over the planet - sort of their stamp paper showing off legal rights to everything the planet contains. On the other hand, the Belters are humans who have grown up in space and cultivated a life of sorts for themselves via mining lithium in an otherwise mostly hostile environment. With everything going against them as the RCE's power and authority over Ilus continues to rise, the fight for survival that had kicked off with the search for a missing girl soon turns into a fight for political power and far sinister threats proving to be a detriment.

Season 4's trailer shows the materials on Ilus coming to life - sort of like tiny charged particles antagonizing the two territories on the mock home away from home, but it is their internal wars that take up most of the plot, with each of them looking like a raging mob about to extinguish the other territory's fire with a burning passion. The added tension of our favorite main characters in an alien world will also make for an excellent thrill aiding the build-up for the upcoming season. While captain of the Martian gunship Rocinante, James Holden (Steven Strait), and engineer Amos Burton (Wes Chatham) take turns in diffusing the tension between the Belters and the New Terra, first officer Naomi Nagata (Dominique Tipper) faces the struggle of being the only Belter on the ship as she also tries to be a spokesperson for the community.

With wars both external and internal brewing, season 4 of the space thriller not only tickles our excitement but also promises the added fun of witnessing the entire saga unfold with incredible visual that only 'The Expanse' is capable up. So gear up, it's gonna be a bumpy, and scary ride!

'The Expanse' season 4 premiers on Friday, December 13, only on Amazon Prime Video.
