You can't fight the power of nature and the Oak Island team learns this the hard way.

In the eleventh episode of 'The Curse Of Oak Island', rightly titled 'The Eye Of The Storm', the team races against time to investigate the swamp before the catastrophic Hurricane Dorian disrupts their plans and progress. For a part of the episode, there seems to be some joy and hope as they make an important discovery, which according to them brings them directly to the money pit. The Lagina brothers are excited, but they know that their happiness might have an expiration date. The storm is 'bearing down on them', as Marty Lagina says several times. He's more pessimistic than his brother Rick as he feels that the curse is real and that the island is indeed cursed. Yet, the determined team frantically continues their digging expeditions with the clouds still hovering above them (literally and metaphorically).

Hurricane Dorian strikes and leaves behind a trail of damage, as expected. The swamp is filled with water, which is a shame considering the work and effort they had made in trying to drain it. This a 'frustrating setback', and there is a sense of disillusion and disappointment echoing at the end of the episode. Nevertheless, Rick Lagina knows what he's on to, and is determined to continue his search efforts. 'I'm never going to give up', he says stoically. He knows that they're close to unraveling the mysteries of the lonely island and no storm is going to destroy his confidence and belief. Amid all the frustration, the team vows to stand together through thick and thin and to continue their expeditions, even if they have to start investigating the swamp again.

This was an intriguing episode, mostly because of the tension the storm seemed to bring with it. Hurricane Dorian was indeed one of the worst disasters in 2019 and its death toll along with the economic damage was on a massive scale.

It remains to be seen how the Oak Island team gathers their courage and spirts to continue their excavations. 'The Curse Of Oak Island' airs on History Channel, Tuesdays at 9pm.
