'The Boys' Season 2: Release Date, plot, cast, trailer and everything you need to know about the Amazon Prime series
The show follows a team of vigilantes righting the wrongs of a corrupt superhero population... with prejudice
Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s hyperviolent take on the superhero genre has been renewed by Amazon Prime for a second season.
The comics-based TV show offers a refreshing new look at the world of caped crusaders as it asks the question no one else has been asking: "What if superheroes were all just the worst?"
Led by the vicious and charismatic Billy Butcher (Karl Urban), Season 1 followed an unpowered but highly skilled team that sought to right the wrongs done by reckless, drug-hazed and corrupt so-called superheroes.
Their main target is America's number one superhero group, The Seven, who are let by the immensely powerful and somewhat unhinged Homelander (Antony Starr).
By the season's end, The Boys have all been captured, with the exception of their leader, Billy Butcher, who went solo to get revenge on Homelander for killing Butcher's wife years ago.
In a cliffhanger ending, Homelander, however, reveals that Butcher's wife is alive and well, living in the suburbs with her and Homelander's superpowered son.
No official release date has yet been announced, but while announcing the film wrap of Season 2, Karl Urban slated the season's release for "Mid 2020".
The main cast for Season 1 will be returning to their roles this season, with a few new faces added to the mix.
From The Boys themselves, we're set to see Hughie Campbell (Jack Quaid), Frenchie (Tomer Capon), Mother's Milk (Laz Alonso) and The Female (Karen Fukuhara) return, and they’ll be joined by their leader, Billy Butcher (Karl Urban).
Karl Urban is known for his roles in 'Thor: Ragnorak', 'Star Trek Beyond' and 'Almost Human'.
As for the superheroes, we will see Homelander (Antony Starr), Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott), Starlight (Erin Moriarty), The Deep (Chace Crawford), A-Train (Jessie T. Usher) and Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell) all return.
Aya Cash will be joining the team this season, as the superhero known as Stormfront.
Patton Oswalt has also been added to the cast, though his role has thus far been kept secret.
The show is based on 'The Boys', a comic series written by Garth Ennis with art by Darrick Robertson. The show was co-created by Erike Kripke, who developed the series for TV with Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogan. Erik Kripke is best known for his works on 'Supernatural', 'Timeless' and 'The House with a Clock in its Walls'.
'The Boys' Season 2 was announced at a panel at the San-Diego Comic Con 2019, where it was also announced that Aya Cash would be joining the show's cast to play the hero Stormfront.
On October 26, Amazon Prime released a teaser trailer for the new season, featuring the Homelander as a child before it cuts to him as an adult, meeting his own son for the very first time.
On November 6, Karl Urban released a picture from the Season's film wrap, declaring that the Season would release "mid-2020".
