LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The superhero genre has a universal appeal. While Marvel and DC drive home the idea of superheroes being the epitome of good, Amazon Prime's 'The Boys' takes the same idea and subverts it to show how superheroes may not always be the zenith of purity and justice. Based on a comic book series by the same name, it follows Butcher and his group, 'The Boys', trying to stop corrupt a superhero group called 'The Seven' of Vought International.

Dubbed a darker version of Superman, Homelander has emerged as one of the most terrifying villains of all time. The character is played by Antony Starr. Throughout the series, we have witnessed Homelander do several unspeakable things. Season 4 of 'The Boys' is currently in the works. Before the upcoming season drops, let us take a look at five of the most horrific things that Homelander has done in both the comics and the series.

When Homelander forced a girl to end her life

This was one of the most terrifying things that Homelander has done on the show. In Season 3 Episode 2, titled 'The Only Man in the Sky', Homelander flies to a roof to stop a girl, Chelsea, from jumping off the roof. At that time he sees that his girlfriend had killed herself on his birthday. A now furious Homelander asks Chelsea to jump off the roof. Chelsea, who was starting to change her mind, refuses, to which Homlander intimidates her with his red-glowing eyes. A scared Chelsea then jumps off the roof and dies.

Killing Maeve

This is one of the most shocking moments taken from the comics. When Homelander finds out that Maeve was helping Butcher and his Boys, he chose to finish off the mole. Though Maeve has superhuman strength, she is of no match to Homelander's powers. Although during the fight, Maeve saves Starlight from Homelander, she is eventually butchered. And that's not it. Homelander throws Queen Maeve's head off the Vought Tower. It is to be noted that Maeve was Homelander's ex-girlfriend.

Killing Butcher's Dog

This is yet another moment taken from the comics. Butcher has a Bulldog named Terror in the comics who accompanies him on his every mission. Terror has helped Butcher a lot and is a loveable companion of The Boys. Homelander, who knew Terror's importance to Butcher, kills the dog in order to get back at Butcher. This, however, further enrages Butcher. This incident in the comic showed how heartless Homelander can be in order to win. This also proves the point that Homelander loves no one except himself.

Killing a protester

Throughout the course of the series, The Boys managed to show Homelander growing more and more insane due to his powers. Season 3 Episode 8, titled 'The Instant White-Hot Wild', showed us how people were divided about whether they should support Homelander or not, owing to the bombshell videos released by Starlight. Homelander then flies down to the crowd and introduces his son Ryan to the public for the first time. When one of the protestors attacks Ryan by throwing something at him, Homelander, without hesitation, blows the head of the protester. In a further unexpected turn of events, the crowds continue cheering Homelander, who smiles with pride.

The Failed Flight Mission

This would be the first time in 'The Boys' that audiences got to see the extreme limits that Homelander would go to to maintain his public image. This horrifying scene takes place in Season 1 Episode 4, titled 'The Female of the Species'. When Homlander and Queen Maeve are tasked with saving the hijacked Transoceanic Flight 37, the duo managed to kill the highjackers. However, Homelander, in the process of killing one hijacker in the cockpit, damages the controls of the flight in the process, resulting in the plane going into an unstable condition. Homelander escapes with Maeve letting all the passengers die. And what's even worse is that Homelander gained popularity by blaming the mission's failure on authorities and putting forth an idea that this tragedy would not have happened if the government allowed superheroes in the military.
