'The Blacklist' Season 8 Episode 8: Is Anne an assassin? Fans worry about Red and think there's more to her
Raymond 'Red' Reddington might have incredibly high criminal credit score, but in the matters of love and relationships, the man is still a sucker for ordinary life. So when Harold Cooper tells him how his wife Charlene is going to react with being sad for 10 minutes before making popcorn and together falling asleep to an episode of 'The Chi', Red is taken aback. This is what ordinary people do, Cooper tells him, adding that he should definitely try it sometime. For a moment there, Red reflects on it and it's almost enough to make one think he and the new birdwatching prospective romantic interest Anne are going to be a thing. Yet he bails on their date last minute leading us to wonder if he really has more intel on people than he lets out? "Is Anne playing Red?" is a common question tonight on Twitter, and if she is, what will be the eventual outcome?
After enjoying yet another coffee date, Red asks Anne to stay longer than her trip was supposed to be in the city. He plans on watching a Hitchcock film with her and asks her to extend the stay for that exact same reason, which she does without hesitation. So far so good, but one can't deny that all of this also looks too good to be true. Perhaps why fans had their inhibitions about the love interest of a character they so love and want to protect at all costs. But in the end, looks like Anne wasn't the one to break Red's heart. It was him in fact, who called her just across the street, hidden in his SUV, to cancel for 'work' while she waited for him outside the movie theatre.

Anne tries to blow it off as cool, and Red is a little taken aback at her nonchalance and how quick she is to tell him that she didn't change her plans for him and reached home moments ago. Anne had no idea Red was watching her from afar, so she lies eloquently without showing any heartbreak whatsoever. They say they might meet again and that's that. The episode ends there. But why doesn't Red approach her? Is it because of the dangers posing his life? Or is Anne really an assassin as fans have now grown to believe?
Taking it to Twitter, a fan wrote: "So, was Anne an assassin? Is that why Red watched from afar??? We may never know... Until next time.." Another asked "Is Anne playing Red? My, how the tables have turned. I have a feeling she is more than what she seems." This could be about Anne being an unsuspecting ally of Elizabeth 'Liz' Keen; why was she in town the very episodes Liz wasn't around? Is this a new strategy that our ex FBI agent turned rogue is using to get to Red? Will she really succeed in taking him out before whatever terminal illness plaguing him, will?

Anne showed up, and Red didn't. Except he did. Y'all two are complicating yourselves unnecessarily. #TheBlacklist

It is wonderful to see Red's sweet, ordinary side. I just hope Anne isn't a plant to do something awful to Red. That would break my heart. But I've learned that nothing is as it seems on this show. #TheBlacklist

Other fans also believe Anne is innocent and the writers are convoluting the plot to mess with their heartstrings. Some pointed out how, "Anne showed up, and Red didn't. Except he did. Y'all two are complicating yourselves unnecessarily." And several others are protective of their beloved former crook Red, as a viewer noted: "It is wonderful to see Red's sweet, ordinary side. I just hope Anne isn't a plant to do something awful to Red. That would break my heart. But I've learned that nothing is as it seems on this show."
'The Blacklist' Season 8 airs on Fridays at 8 pm only on NBC.
