The Bachelorette: Picking Hannah Brown for season 15 over other contestants is an injustice and we know why the producers did it

Fans of the show have just one question: Why the producers chose Brown over other deserving contestants like Tayshia Adams, Hannah Godwin or Caelynn Keyes
UPDATED APR 10, 2019

Although there is still a month for season 15 of 'The Bachelorette' to premiere, fans have already started speculating as to who might end up winning Hannah Brown's heart.

The news of Brown being the bachelorette this season was announced during the finale of 'The Bachelor' season 23. Though some fans claimed the producers made a wrong decision and other contestants would have been a better choice, some fans were happy that Brown was the final choice.

Even as shooting for the new season has started, fans are wondering why the producers chose Brown instead of Tayshia Adams, Hannah Godwin or Caelynn Keyes.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, ABC executive Rob Mills explained why they chose Brown over other contestants for 'The Bachelorette.

“We met with Hannah B., Hannah Godwin, Tayshia Adams, Caelynn Miller-Keyes and Demi Burnett [all from Colton’s season],” he said. “And they were all great, but there was something about Hannah B.”

He added that Brown had a spark that would show well on screen.  “Part of it was that she thought she was the dark horse, so she came in and had nothing to lose, saying, ‘I don’t know, I’m just going to be myself.’ There was just something different that we hadn’t seen in a Bachelorette before,” he explained.

“Very kind of charming and goofy. When she had her intro video for The Bachelor and she said, ‘I’m Hannah — all aboard the hot mess express!’, you think that’s probably just shtick. And then we figured out, no that’s actually true. I think that came through on the live show, too, when she met the first five guys.”

However, that didn't stop fans from speculating their own reasons why she was chosen.

"Hannah B also didn't get the best edit, they were pretty focused on the Bachelorette being Caelynn, with the inoffensive back-up being Hannah G (who at F3 would have been fine as Bachelorette, but they didn't focus on showing much of her). But then Hannah B got more love than expected, because she seemed like an underdog who just needed a chance, and also, she was unexpected. Every season, at least some viewers will say that they won't watch (I thought I wouldn't for Colton!). But the producers know that a controversial lead brings in more viewers than a boring, predictable one. Love them or hate them, at least you care," said a fan.

Apart from this, fans also speculate that Wills' comment about why they chose Brown to be 'The Bachelorette' confirms that Brown was easily manipulated by the producers.

A fan wrote, "Idk... I think this confirms what has been speculated about her being more easily-manipulated by producers, just said in a nice way. Mills said it was “charming” that she didn’t know what to do, but to me that’s a red flag for “we’re just gonna exploit that.” We don’t even know what was said when she came back for Colton during Hannah G’s hometown!!! But it was probably just a showy producer setup that Hannah pretty happily went along with it."

'The Bachelorette' season 15 premieres on ABC on May 13. Check your local listings for more information.
