SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA: Netflix's fantasy romance 'The Atypical Family', has been premiering since May 4, 2024. This South Korean drama, directed by Jo Hyun-taek and written by Joo Hwa-mi, promises a unique blend of love and fantastical elements.

Starring Jang Ki-yong and Chun Woo-hee, the series follows the story of a family unlike any other. The captivating journey is soon ending on June 9, 2024, with each episode promising a thrilling seventy minutes of entertainment.

Episode 9 of 'The Atypical Family' throws the Bok family into chaos as Do Da-hae's mother Baek Il-Hong (Kim Keum-Soon) manipulative streak reaches new heights, tearing the family apart with a web of lies. Her schemes cause Mr. Bok's (Oh Man-Seok) to be thrown out of the house, leaving him potentially remorseful and desperate to mend fences.

Meanwhile, Do Da-hae's (Chun Woo-hee) bombshell revelation about her true identity throws Mrs. Bok's plans into disarray. As Bok I-na (Park So-yi) grapples with bullying and the weight of her mother's death, Da-hae offers her support and understanding, forging a new connection.

Bok Gwi-ju (Jang Ki-yong), too, tries to connect with I-na, which leads him to confess his love to Da-hae as well, however, the episode doesn't end on a hopeful note.

The ninth episode of 'The Atypical Family' offers an emotional deep dive into the backstory of Gwi-ju’s wife and the tragic circumstances surrounding her death. A heartfelt interaction takes place between Gwi-ju and his daughter, I-na, in a park.

In a poignant moment, Gwi-ju accidentally spills coffee on I-na's glasses, and while attempting to clean them, I-na's frustration boils over. Gwi-ju, following Da-hae's advice, tries to communicate his deep remorse through his eyes.

I-na perceives his genuine sorrow and desire to be present for her now, prompting her to reflect on a painful memory. She recalls that just before the fatal car accident, her mother was trying to escape from Gwi-ju.

A young I-na had unwittingly voiced her mother’s negative thoughts about her birth being a mistake, distracting her mother and causing the crash.

This revelation lifts a heavy burden of guilt from I-na, who had been blaming herself for her mother’s death. Gwi-ju reassures her that she was never a mistake, but rather the best thing that ever happened to him.

Parallel to these events, Da-hae, alongside Mrs. Bok, hatches a plan. In a dream, Mrs. Bok sees her daughter alive and embraces her, expressing relief.

Gwi-ju’s efforts to reconnect with I-na continue as he teaches her how to ride a bicycle in the park. This activity boosts I-na’s confidence, leading her to confront her feelings towards her friend Han Jun-woo (Moon Woo-jin).

The episode ends with Gwi-ju confessing his love to Da-hae and promising to save her. This declaration of love is contrasted with Mrs. Bok’s ominous dream of Gwi-ju’s death, prompting her to search for him at a bar frantically.

'The Atypical Family' is available for streaming on Netflix.
