'The Acolyte': Not Mae or Osha, fans wonder if this key character is Qimir's true target
Contains spoilers and speculation 'The Acolyte'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'The Acolyte' Episode 6 premiered on Disney+ on Tuesday, July 2, 2024.
The thrilling episode of this 'Star Wars' series delved deep into the compelling character arc of the man we knew as Qimir (Manny Jacinto) until Episode 5 when he revealed himself as the Sith Lord responsible for the Jedi killings.
Qimir accompanies Mae (Amandla Stenberg) as a jovial accomplice and helps her in the killing of Jedi Masters. However, Mae's decision to betray him and the mission comes when she learns that her sister Osha is still alive.
Once he is revealed as the masked master who Mae reported to, he also announces his intentions calling himself a Sith who wants to express his power freely without having to comply with the Jedi Order.
He also expresses his desire to find a pupil, currently attempting to persuade Osha to join him in his mission after Mae failed to meet his expectations.
That appears to be his primary goal, though some observant fans have spotted a different objective for him.
Fans think Master Sol is Qimir's real target in 'The Acolyte'
Fans have been very vocal about the series, with theories about the show circulating online since the first episode.
Speculation was rife about the identity of the masked master. Now that it has been revealed, it's his motives that have captured the audience's attention. Fans believe that Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) was Qimir's main target.
One Reddit user wrote, "What if Qimir's end game has never been about making Mae or Osha his apprentice, what if the target has always been Sol?
We've seen throughout the show that Sol doesn't behave the way other jedi do. He has strong attachments, he's very emotional, and he abandons jedi rules of combat in the heat of the moment like attacking someone with their back turned and he probably would have even killed an unarmed opponent if Osha didn't stop him."
Another user added, "When Qimir said to Sol, "You don't remember me?" he could have just been talking about when they met in the previous episode, but as others have said it seems like there is more behind this."
One user compared him to Anakin Skywalker's dark side by saying, "Sol is the the most ripe to turn to the dark side, he's the most Anakin like of all the characters if that makes sense. He's already powerful and has shown that in his fight with Qimir, he won't need to be taught the basics of force use like the twins still would."
One Reddit user said, "Not a crazy theory, but it seems like Qimir wants a strong acolyte and doesn't care who that is. I think he's playing this game haphazardly when it comes to the details."
Another Reddit user commented, "I do agree it seems that way, and perhaps he is. But I think it fits better with the Sith during this rule of two era that they are master manipulators and they seem to always have a plan, rather than just seeing what happens."
One Reddit user said, "Sol seems to be more Qui Gon than Anakin. He's morally-inclined, emotional, and not fully adherent to the Jedi code and hierarchy. He may leave the order or fight it from within, as Qui Gon did, but seems to me to be unlikely to embrace the Sith way and give in completely to his emotions. He's one of the good guys, not an antihero."
Master Sol's past could hold clues to his future
An interesting development in Episode 6 was Master Sol talking about confronting his past from sixteen years ago. His past has been teased for the last two episodes, especially when Qimir urges Osha to inquire about it in Episode 5.
In Episode 6, he informs Mae, who is pretending to be Osha, that he must confront his actions and face the High Council. He then discovers that it is Mae and incapacitates her.
The episode ends on a cliffhanger as Master Sol promises to reveal to Mae what happened sixteen years ago and share details about his past. There may be a history between Sol and Qimir from 16 years ago.
