'The 100' Series Finale Countdown: Will Clarke's death be the ultimate answer to everyone's survival?
Spoilers for 'The 100'
The end of one of TV's best post-apocalypse drama is around the corner and while the consensus of most fans is that the series took a horrible hit in its final season, we're still going to miss tuning in to see the drama unfold. In the penultimate episodes — one of the best in the final Season 7 — titled 'The Dying of the Light', we saw Clarke Griffin (Eliza Taylor) and Octavia Blake (Marie Avgeropoulos) make their way to Bardo and with the help of Levitt (Jason Diaz) find Clarke's daughter Madi (Lola Flannery).
We also found out that Bill Cadogan (John Pyper-Ferguson) aka The Shephard was able to retrieve the code from Madi in MCAP leaving her in a complete nonresponsive state. Even though Clarke's solution was to shoot her daughter to ease her from a life like that, they realized that they have to find Cadogan and so they leave Madi behind with the promise that Cadogan will be stopped.
So, where do we go from here? With the number of unnecessary deaths that were written into the final season of the series, we wonder if Clarke's death would be the ultimate answer to everyone's survival? The final episode of the series is titled 'The Last War' and we're expecting deaths, of course.
If you've watched the series in all its glory, you would know that Clarke has a need to always put herself in danger so as to keep other safe — Gaia (Tati Gabrielle) had also reminded Clarke of this when she was in shambles when Madi sacrificed herself to Cadogan so he wouldn't send any more Disciples to hurt the only family she had left.
We're going to assume that the "test" will be something Clarke has to endure and now, having lost her daughter to Cadogan's merciless torture, we highly doubt she's in a space where she can fight anymore. A testimony to this statement would be her reaction to realizing her "baby" was now gone.
Although, on the other hand, she did make a promise to Madi, so it also could be that she would do anything — including putting herself in danger — to make sure that Cadogan's need to "transcend" doesn't destroy her family. Not to mention, the promo of the finale teases more deaths, with Clarke yet again, explain herself - "did love make me do this? Yes," she says. What can be said for sure, is that violence seems to be a major theme — then again, when is it not?
It seems as though Clarke and the entire troupe have finally reached the last battle and we think that it would almost be a testament to the fact that Clarke has gone beyond her character's recognition if she dies. Not to mention after she killed Bellamy Blake (Bob Morley) for what most fans thought was for absolutely no reason, she's most likely public enemy #1 for us as audiences right now.
We can't help but think that death would allow so many to live, possibly giving humanity another chance to do better. It's almost like Clark's death is justifiable most would say, especially to keep her from killing other characters for no reason. Unfortunately, it seems as though the final season of the series has not taken into consideration the many character arcs fans were expecting, leaving many of the audiences questioning creator Jason Rothenberg's vision in ending the series.
So we think that Clarke's death could mean a second chance for humanity and the ultimate answer to everyone's survival because her decisions this season seem to cost the lives of quite a few characters. Then again, Rothenberg may completely throw us off — is it the last war because everyone dies? or is it the last war because Clarke dies?
'The 100' Series finale, 'The Last War', airs on The CW on Wednesday, September 30, at 8/7c.
