Texas teen 'strangled' his unwed pregnant sister to death because she was 'an embarrassment to the family'
THE COLONY, TEXAS: A Texas teenager, who was embarrassed of his unwed pregnant sister, reportedly killed her and made her disappearance look like a suicide.
Viridiana Arevalo, 23, was eight months pregnant when she was reported missing in The Colony on December 17 by her boyfriend. Her family had found a note stating she was contemplating suicide.
Viridiana's brother Eduardo Arevalo, 19, was arrested and charged with capital murder following the discovery of her body in an alley on December 22.
The day before Viridiana was reported missing, Eduardo confessed to strangling her and then writing the suicide note her family found so it would appear she ended her own life.
Detectives learned the teenager killed his sibling because she was "an embarrassment to their family" and that "it would be better off that she wasn't here", according to FOX4.
Eduardo went on to explain that after killing Viridiana, he placed her body in the trunk of his car and drove to a remote part of town to dump the body.
"As the week went on, Eduardo stated that he wanted his family to know where Viri was so he went and picked up her body and brought her back in the early morning hours on Sunday and dumped her body in the alleyway," Sgt Aaron Woodard of The Colony Police Department said at a news conference on December 23.
The body was discovered by neighbors soon after, and they alerted the authorities. Eduardo, who was spotted on surveillance camera footage in the alley, immediately became a suspect in the murder.
According to the police, Virginia's baby was her boyfriend's child. However, they don't think the boyfriend or anyone else in her family played a role in the homicide.
When Viridiana was first reported missing on December 17, the authorities had said there were no signs of foul play. "We currently believe this is a voluntary absence," Colony police had said in a tweet.
