Bryan Slaton trolled for wanting ban on minors at drag shows after bizarre 'Drag the Kids to Pride'
Soon after the video of ‘Drag the Kids to Pride’ went viral, Bryan Slaton, a Republican who represents a district outside of Dallas, announced on Monday, June 6, that he will file a bill to prohibit kids from attending drag shows. “Drag shows are no place for a child,” he tweeted.
Being triggered by the video in a Dallas bar named ‘Drag the Kids to Pride Drag Show,’ which was advertised as family-friendly revelry, a spinoff of the venue’s Champagne Drag Brunch at which kids could dance on stage with performers, Slaton wrote, “The events of this past weekend were horrifying and show a disturbing trend in which perverted adults are obsessed with sexualizing young children.”

“As a father of two young children, I would never take my children to a drag show and I know Speaker Dade Phelan and the rest of my Republican colleagues wouldn’t either. Protecting our own children isn’t enough, and our responsibility as lawmakers extends to the sexualization that is happening across Texas,” he further stated.

The release by him on Twitter also stated that he would continue his fight to have gender-affirming health care considered child abuse in the state.
As Slaton's intention to introduce a bill banning children from drag shows—after footage of ‘Drag the Kids to Pride’ video swept across social media this past weekend—was spread, many were quick to react. One said, "Oh, brother. Since drag shows USUALLY take place in bars, aren't minors already impacted??" Another wrote, "I don’t remember stuffing money into strippers g-strings at age 9…end this sickness."

While others questioned his intention. A user commented, "But wait, I thought they were big on "Parents know what's best for their kids." I guess now it's "government knows what's best for your kids." Seriously, do republicans have nothing better to do than start culture wars endlessly?" "Classic Republican strategy, they are "Saving the children!" Not from gun violence, being put through the adoption system, income inequality, systemic racism, or anything else, but they are saving the children," another said.

Asking about the obsession with such shows, a user questioned, "What is their obsession with drag shows all of a sudden? i guess this is the distraction from all the vicious gun murders that happen daily."
