'Ted Bundy: The Survivors': Release date, plot, cast, trailer and all you need to know about the Reelz two-part special
While the true-crime genre has been quite popular, one of the glaring problems in how we tell the real-life stories of serial killers may be that we often focus on the killer and the victims (who are often women) as objects -- describing the horrific ways in which they were killed so that the killer's MO is revealed clearly. Very rarely is it that the stories of survivors are told, especially those who had narrowly escaped their predators.
In October, Reelz will be bringing its viewers a new two-part special on Ted Bundy, but this time, the focus will be on the survivors. 'Ted Bundy: The Survivors' will consist of two parts. Read on to know more details.
Release date
'Ted Bundy: The Survivors' will premiere on Reelz on Saturday, October 3 at 8/7c with Part 1 titled 'Eyes of Evil'. Part 2 titled 'Ending the Evil' will air on October 10 at 8/7c on Reelz.
Plot
The official synopsis states: "He was a serial monster who seduced and killed with shocking depravity. He was a chameleon so deceptive that some experts estimate he charmed more than a hundred women to their cruel deaths with his reign of terror-inspiring countless movies including 'American Psycho' and 'Silence of the Lambs'. But for all the women who were murdered there were a surprising number who got away through their own willpower, sharp thinking, and a stroke of luck. In this two-part special, viewers will hear the jarring first-hand accounts of women who survived Bundy's attempt to assault and murder them including that of Karen Sparks who Bundy attacked and beat so severely she was unconscious in the hospital for 10 days. Viewers will also hear survivor accounts from Sandra Swartz and Rhonda Stapley who recount their experience with Bundy's twisted personality. 'Ted Bundy: The Survivors' also explores Bundy's childhood from his days as an innocent paperboy to an admired high school athlete and budding attorney to becoming one of the most notorious mass murderers in American history. How did Bundy's story begin? Why did his crimes begin? Why wasn't he captured sooner? This special explores his amazing ability to cover his tracks and uncovers how he outwitted an army of investigators despite being identified by friends, colleagues, and even his girlfriend."
Cast
'Ted Bundy: The Survivors' will feature Karen Sparks, Sandra Swartz, and Rhonda Stapley. Additionally, the two-part special will also feature commentary from former King County detective Kathleen McChesney, Kevin Sullivan author of 'The Bundy Murders', psychologist Dr Sherry Ginn and crime writer Shirley Lynn Scott.
