ITHACA, NEW YORK: A missing Ithaca woman, 34, died during a police shootout between Virginia State police and her alleged kidnapper. On Wednesday night, April 5, Tatiana N David, was found dead of an apparent gunshot wound in Virginia. Her body was discovered near a wrecked SUV found on a highway embankment.

Before getting into a shootout with the police, Michael C Davis, her alleged abductor, fled a traffic stop and his vehicle crashed. The 34-year-old was shot and injured in the incident, according to officials, reported Law and Crime.

Tatiana David and Michael Davis were parents to a 4-year-old 

Police in New York had to issue a statewide alert following David's missing in which the search spanned several states taking nearly 16 hours before the death. The search began after officers responded to the abduction on Wednesday morning in Ithaca. According to a witness, against David's will the alleged kidnapper forced the woman into a white SUV again. The vehicle was found on I-495 crossing into Virginia at 9.25 pm, according to police. As per the bulletin containing information about the suspect and the victim, police said that David and Davis who were in a relationship had a 4-year-old child together.

'I wish I could have done something'

Davis' vehicle was stopped by the Virginia State Police but he drove off which led to a pursuit and the SUV's crash in a wooded area after 30 minutes of the chase. where the SUV. The suspect began firing at troopers. According to officials, the Virginia State Police shot him back, leaving him injured and hospitalized in critical condition. As of Saturday, information on their 4-year-old child's status remains unclear. With a pending autopsy and investigation, Davis's cause of death has not been released.

James Rice, a witness said, "Man, I wish I could have done something." He lives in the Upstate New York apartment, above Davis' home. "I was actually half awake when it happened, but I was trying to go back to sleep because I was still tired, but then the screaming kept me up. I was like, ‘What’s the screaming?’ So, then I looked out, and then that’s when I saw her get kidnapped and everything, and nothing I could have done," said Rice, according to DC News Now.
