Tamara Palmer: SC woman thanks cops for saving life as traffic stop over drunk-driving leads to brain tumor diagnosis
MOUNT PLEASANT, SOUTH CAROLINA: Tamara Palmer, a woman pulled over by Mount Pleasant Police in December 2022 for assuming she was drunk, apparently got diagnosed with a brain tumor. She was taken to the hospital immediately after she claimed to have a headache which led to a life-changing surgery in her life. The incident happened on December 2, 2022. Police were called to US Highway 17 North in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.
Palmer was seen driving erratically and was observed to have repeatedly hit the road's shoulder. Though police believed that she was drinking and driving, it was revealed that she was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol. She was immediately taken to the hospital and was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, which required immediate surgery. It was the move of the police that ultimately led to saving the citizen's life.

What did the police explain about the incident?
Mount Pleasant Police wrote on their Facebook handle, "Mount Pleasant, SC – On December 2, 2022, PFC Aton and PFC Schoonmaker responded to the area of HWY 17 N for a possible Drunk Driver. SPO Schoonmaker located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop due to the vehicle striking the curb multiple times and failing to maintain its lane. Once the vehicle stopped, contact was made with the driver, Tamara Palmer. Ms. Palmer did not have any indications of being impaired by alcohol or drugs. While speaking to her, the officers realized she continuously complained of a headache. The officers determined that Ms. Palmer was possibly having a medical episode and requested an ambulance."
Further, it added, "On February 19, 2023, Ms. Palmer reached out to the Mount Pleasant Police Department for a follow-up. She stated that once she was at the hospital, they located a brain tumor. She stated that she immediately underwent an 8-hour procedure and is doing great. Ms. Palmer feels that these officers absolutely saved her life. Without their quick analysis of the situation, the outcome could have ended differently."

Citizens quickly reacted to the Facebook post. A user wrote, "That is a great outcome for Ms Palmer. Thank you officers for your hard work and service to our community." Another added, "Great skills on handling this medical emergency. More officers should have the awareness to consider a medical emergency, rather than thinking someone is under the influence first." "So glad a life was saved once again by MPPD," commented another. "That's amazing! Great job recognizing this and not making assumptions about why she was acting that way. Yall were her angels in disguise that day!," added a user.

Fantastic, thoughtful, compassionate officers who, instead of throwing the women to the ground, tazing her, using pepper spray, cuffing and dragging her to a station where she would sit for hours and probably die....they used their heads and hearts! Thank you, thank you, thank you, for being wonderful, thoughtful human beings! Hopefully other law enforcement officers will follow in your footsteps. You deserve a medal and special reckonition," claimed another.
