Suzanne Morphew's husband Barry, charged for her murder, shared love letters allegedly to avoid being suspect
Barry Morphew, who has been arrested and charged with the murder of his wife Suzanne, had shared love letters sent to him by her when she went missing last year. It's been speculated that Morphew had shared those letters after her alleged murder last year in an attempt to cover his tracks. Barry was arrested on the morning of Wednesday, May 5, and slammed with murder charges after an almost year-long hunt to locate his wife, a mother of two.
The 53-year-old landscaper had claimed and maintained his innocence throughout the search for his 49-year-old wife who used to be a teacher. Barry had even issued a $100,000 reward for Suzanne's return, claiming he believed she had been abducted. He had also previously claimed he thought she had been attacked by a wild animal during a bike ride she took when nobody else was at their Colorado home.

Suzanne went missing on Mother's Day, May 10, last year when her two daughters were camping in Idaho and Barry was allegedly on a landscaping job 140 miles away in Denver. When she went missing, Barry had posted a plea on Facebook, a video asking her to return home and also shared photos and love notes from his wife during a CBS 4 interview.
In one of the cards Suzanne allegedly gave Barry on Valentine's Day 2020, just three months before her disappearance, she wrote "Just want you to know - my life would be nothing without your love and the excitement you bring to our marriage and my life. All my love - Suzanne." Another letter Barry shared claiming was from her, read, "I remember the first kiss you gave me at my front door. I remember the day you asked me to marry you when you gave me flowers at the pond... I remember the day you held me when I just found out I had cancer. I remember our wedding day and the way you made me feel so beautiful... I remember the day our girls were born. I remember the February nights in 2013 when I was so sick and couldn't sleep. I remember all the beautiful and difficult times. We've had so many. You are my love 4ever."
Barry had said he and Suzanne wed in 1994 after she was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma. Together the couple lived with their two daughters Mallory and Macy, in their $1.7 million Colorado home which Barry sold just weeks before his arrest claiming the girls are scared of living in a house their mother had allegedly been abducted from. The house had been searched on two occasions along with a property where Barry had worked as a landscaper. His earnest plea for Suzanne's return came shortly after her bother had accused him of foul play in her disappearance.
During an appearance on 'Dr Phil', Suzanne's brother Andrew Moorman claimed his sister had been "abducted, and in this case, murdered." Moorman added "I don't think she was taken to a second location, I think it happened at home" and claimed he believed Barry was guilty "based on the behaviors and things that happened" but that he would "pray it's not." Moorman had even launched his own independent search for his sister funded by a GoFundMe but Barry had refused to participate claiming he believed Suzanne was no longer in the local area. Barry had however refuted Moorman's claims by alleging how he was not close to his sister in the days before her disappearance. “I've spent many nights... [with] Suzanne crying on my shoulder, asking why her siblings refuse to show her love,” he told CBS.
Suzanne had been reported missing by a neighbor after her daughters reportedly asked the neighbor to check on her when they couldn't get in touch with their mother after returning from their camping trip. Suzanne is believed to have left her Maysville mansion on a bike ride and never returned. She was expected to have been riding in the area between West Highway 50 County Road 225, with her bike later found at the bottom of a hill.
Barry became a suspect after an ex-employee working with him at the Denver location claimed that his hotel room smelled strongly of bleach and was covered in wet towels. Police confirmed on May 5 that Barry has been charged with first-degree murder, tampering with evidence, and attempting to influence a public servant in Suzanne's disappearance and was arrested the same day at his workplace. Cops confirmed they don't think Suzanne is alive anymore, even though no body has been discovered. "We are announcing that at [9:15] this morning, the Chaffee County Sheriff's Office arrested Suzanne Morphew's husband, Barry Morphew," Chaffee County Sheriff John Spezze said. "He was taken into custody near his home in Poncha Springs, he was alone at the time of his arrest, and he was arrested without incident."
