'Supernatural' Season 15 Episode 19: Was this the series finale? Here's why fans are left confused and worried
Spoilers for Season 15 Episode 19 'Inherit the Earth'
At the end of the most recent episode of 'Supernatural', fans weren't quite ready for the emotional barrage of bricks they were hit with, when Dean and Sam Winchester wound up at their bunker, reflecting on how they are finally free, and a whole montage of the last 15 seasons ensued. That was enough to make fans look up at TV episode listings and check episode numbers correctly as the episode, even though not the season, or series finale of the long time show, felt like one. Worried fans flocked to Twitter but not because they thought they missed the finale, but to speculate what more could the show have in store for them when the series finale finally rolls out next week!
In Episode 19 titled 'Inherit the Earth', “Everything is on the line as the battle against God continues; and a familiar face returns to join the fight.” We see Michael return as a favorable ally to Sam and Dean, and tackle the Devil all by himself. Later Sam summons Chuck through a spell and the Winchester brothers fight him off with all they have - bloodied and battered - until Jack emerges as the new God and takes him down. Jack is able to bring back peace and laughter in the world again, but to fans vehement frustration, not Cas yet! However, things went pretty smooth until the montage hit and fans were left seeking boxes of tissues.
"This was a great episode! Felt like a series finale!! So what in the world are you going to do next week!! Don't mess this up!!" tweeted a fan among many others resonating with the same mix of fear and excitement knowing the show's track record. "The did the end of the “season” finale right. Hit the feels but felt right," shared another. Several noted "OMG the story twist and turns, tears, goosebumps!! In one word, EPIC I can’t imagine what the writer’s saved for the finale." And others were swirling in confusion over how it's "Weird that the episode before the series finale felt like the series finale. What’s gonna happen in the actual series finale?"

So how dare you not give us carry on my wayward son at the beginning if THIS was actually the finale not next weeks montage of fun interviews? Not to sound salty but this has been a tradition for what? 15 years? We dont even get our fav song at the beginning? #supernatural #spn

I take this as a season finale, although the montage threw me off. Next week is a retrospective of the show and then an episode. They showed that telescope thing in the trailer. That has to mean something. This show will not pull a GOT ending! #Supernatural

Other fans had different views on how a finale, if this have been one, should have panned out. "So how dare you not give us carry on my wayward son at the beginning if THIS was actually the finale not next week's montage of fun interviews? Not to sound salty but this has been a tradition for what? 15 years? We dont even get our fav song at the beginning?" Others tried to remain hopeful about the show not botching the ending the way they did with making Destiel canon. "I take this as a season finale, although the montage threw me off. Next week is a retrospective of the show and then an episode. They showed that telescope thing in the trailer. That has to mean something. This show will not pull a GOT ending!" wrote the fan.
But worry not if you haven't watched the episode yet. This was most certainly not the series finale, which is officially designated to be a double episode finale through the upcoming Episodes 20 and 21, airing on November 19 at 8 pm on The CW.
