'Supergirl' Season 5: Kara stands to lose everyone from Lena Luthor to Alex in the impending 'Crisis On Infinite Earths'

These characters are so pivotal to the storyline as well as to Kara's life that it won't be surprising if the writers decided to get rid of them to change the course of the show completely

There’s a storm headed towards the Arrowverse, and the fate of all the heroes lies in the balance. Some deaths are certain while others are still left in the lurch about what the future holds for them.

This, for fans, however, promises to be an epic DC crossover of five shows — 'The Flash', 'Arrow', 'Supergirl', 'Batwoman' and 'Legends of Tomorrow'.

The Arrowverse has been setting up 'Crisis on Infinite Earths' ever since the first episode of 'The Flash' from season one. 'The Arrow' will take a final bow this year after eight years, and for now, it is safe to assume that Barry Allen from 'The Flash' will die or disappear, in order to save billions of lives.

This DC event was inspired by the comic-book mini-series by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez, which began in 1985. The Anti-Monitor destroyed multiple realities with a wave of anti-matter, and the world's greatest heroes assembled to defeat the threat.

This arc is normally said to have saved DC comics, which was struggling to gain a foothold at the time. Crucial events like Barry Allen and Supergirl's death made a strong impact in DC comic history. Yet, obviously shows would not be following the comic book storyline to the T.

While Barry's death seems certain, Kara's fate is not clear. In fact, 'Supergirl' has barely addressed the 'Crisis', even though there are four episodes to go for December 8, when the impending doom is said to occur.

Kara has a lot to lose in the 'Crisis' as well, including her own sister Alex and close friend Lena Luthor. These characters are so pivotal to the storyline as well as to Kara's life that it won't be surprising if the writers decided to get rid of them to change the course of the show completely.

The 'Crisis' could leave Supergirl emotionally scarred.  Apart from this, Superman from 'Supergirl' (Tyler Hoechlin) and Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tullock) will also return for the 'Crisis'.

The alternate reality Earth of the 'Kingdom Come' Superman will also face the 'Crisis', along with the rest of the 53 worlds of the Arrowverse's Multiverse apart from Supergirl's Earth-58.

Supergirl might just witness different versions of her cousin Clark Kent die. However, considering this might not be entirely likely as Tyler Hoechlin has got his own show. But then, you never know, whether that could be another storyline.

The stakes are colossal for Supergirl and the Arrowverse will be transformed beyond recognition. It could culminate in a terrible tragedy for Kara, and pave the way for a complete change in her character in the seasons to come.
