'Supergirl' Season 5 Episode 6: Lena does not get Acrata's powers as Arrowverse sticks to Andrea Rojas' comic book storyline

Episode 6 of 'Supergirl' Season 5 had initially hinted at Lena being Acrata. However, this is not the case
PUBLISHED NOV 11, 2019

The latest episode of 'Supergirl' had some unexpected revelations. For starters, it explored the backstories of the boss women Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath) and Andrea Rojas (Julie Gonzalo), their turbulent friendship and the final end of it.

We also finally got to hear about the beginning about the Acrata story arc — something that is a crucial plotline in the comics.

In the comics, Andrea Rojas is Acrata, who fights against organized crime. Her powers emerge from the ancient Mayan symbol that represents the shadows at night, which means that Acrata can teleport after she enters a shadow. The symbol was used by ancient Mayan priests when they wanted to travel in the dark.

The CW show demonstrated how Andrea got the powers. However, interestingly, Lena was the one who had told Andrea about the Acrata medallion, as she had heard stories about it as a child from her mother.

Years later, Andrea accompanies Lena on her quest to hunt down the medallion. Andrea falls into a pit and is approached by a Leviathan stooge, who informs her that if she takes the medallion, they'll save her ailing father.

Andrea takes the medallion, albeit reluctantly, and is told to always keep it. She hides this from Lena, who discovers it years later. Feeling betrayed, Lena ends their friendship. At the end of the episode, Lena takes the medallion back from Andrea, after threatening to kill her boyfriend, Russell.

Yet, Andrea possesses the powers of Acrata and not Lena. As Andrea is reminded at the end, "The darkness was in you".

Despite making it look as if Lena could possibly have been Acrata, the makers remained faithful to the comic storyline, without giving a sudden twist in the episode. Sorry fans, no matter how much we might have loved the idea, the makers are going with the original plan.

Fans are in a whirl after the episode and have been tweeting furiously. "Lena was supposed to be Acrata?" One wrote while another tweeted, "Lena was the one who told Andrea about Acrata?!" Another had a theory, "A crazy theory... And if Lena becomes Acrata and thus appears in the crossover?"

Episode 6 of 'Supergirl' titled 'Confidence Women' aired on The CW on November 10.
