Who is Sunny Laluz? Black TikToker calls out man who compared masks to slave muzzles
A TikTok user who goes by the name Sunny LaLuz has cited examples from history to debunk a viral theory propagated by the anti-mask brigade. Recently, a video gained a lot of traction on TikTok, where a White man can be seen comparing COVID-19 face masks to slave muzzles. Shockingly, such a racially offensive idea has prevailed for quite a while. In fact, a California woman was lambasted last year for a poster that equated masks with primitive slave muzzles.
In her video, Laluz called out the male TikTok user for the degrading and racist comparison. "So slave masters would put that (muzzles) on them as a form of punishment that they couldn’t take off, and you have all of the PWC nerve and gall to compare that to a mask that you can remove during the middle of a goddamn pandemic? Keep Black people out of your f**ed up narrative," she said. The original video of the man appears to be deleted now, making it difficult to trace him.

In the latest TikTok video, Laluz shows a clip of the man speaking about the slave muzzles and face masks, before she dubs the narrative as inaccurate.
"Did you know that in the 1800s when slaves would misbehave, slave owners would put cloths over their face and make them go work in the hot fields till they passed out? So don’t forget to put on your mask before you go to work like a good little slave of the government," the man can be heard saying in his video.
LaLuz contradicted his idea, saying, "You mean the metal muzzles that they would use? You mean the ones that would cover their entire face where they could barely talk much less eat? They most certainly could not remove them.”
She went on to say that the muzzles were forcibly padlocked on the faces of the slaves as a form of punishment. They would be punished for reasons as shocking as eating more than their allotted amount of food, or insubordination of their masters. They would often starve badly while forced to wear muzzles as they were unable to eat anything.
Laluz was supported by hundreds of viewers who appeared taken back and horrified by the man's comparison. Her video has garnered over 424,000 views and 146,000 likes.
