'Race has nothing to do with it': Sunny Hostin slammed for saying 'finally we know that Black quarterbacks can lead teams' after Super Bowl LVII
GLENDALE, ARIZONA: The Super Bowl LVII showdown on Sunday, February 12, 2023, saw the Kansas City Chiefs defeating Philadelphia Eagles with a 38-35 victory. Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes leading their teams this season became the first Black QBs to face off in Super Bowl. 'The View' co-host Sunny Hostin was quick to comment on the game the following day and said, "Black quarterbacks can lead teams."
‘The View’ co-host added, "The only thing that would have made it better for me is, you know, finally we know that Black quarterbacks can lead teams and are smart enough to lead teams." When co-host Whoopi Goldberg said that she's "always" known that and added "that was never a question. It takes people a minute to catch up," Hostin responded, "We knew that," reports Fox News.

Sunny Hostin slammed for bringing in race and color
Hostin's statements did not go well with netizens as Twitter users bashed the 54-year-old host for bringing in race and color. A social media user wrote, "So she doubted that black football players could be quarterbacks and lead teams? Wow? She doesn’t think much of black men, does she?"
Another said, "When you put color in front of items/ persons you're are a racist." One person commented, "1st: Race has absolutely nothing to do with it. 2nd: this is 2023. Nobody ever said “black” athletes can’t QB."
On the other hand, an individual asked, "Does every thing have to be about race? Their leadership would be there if they were purple. It has to do with talent and brains!"

'Didn't QB Doug Williams lead the Washington Redskins?'
A user commented, "Didn't QB Doug Williams lead the Washington Redskins to a 42-10 Super Bowl win over the Broncos in 1988?" Another said, "35 years ago, Doug Williams, BLACK QB, won the super bowl! Where has "The View" been? C'mon man!"
According to Nola, Williams was the first Black quarterback to reach and win a Super Bowl, leading the then-Washington Redskins over the Denver Broncos on January 31, 1988.

Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts
Hurts made his Super Bowl debut against Patrick Mahomes, who became the third Black quarterback to win the Super Bowl in 2020 after Williams in 1988 and Russell Wilson for the Seattle Seahawks in 2014, reports CNN. While in an interview with ESPN, Philadelphia's left tackle Jordan Mailata called Hurts "one of the hardest workers I've ever seen in my life." Mailata added, "Second year as a full-year starter, and he's taking us to the Super Bowl?"
