'Suits' season 9 promised us Mike Ross' return, but a one-episode guest spot is way below the expected
Season 9 of ‘Suits’ has taken Zane Specter Litt Wheeler Williams on a rollercoaster ride of horrors. From losing associates to the firing of Samantha Wheeler (Katherine Heigl) this season has been one of the nightmares.
And, to top it all, the man who we assumed would be the savior of the firm, came for a short while, made things worse and bailed. We are, of course, referring to Mike Ross (Patrick J Adams), who, the NBC had teased over and over again, would return in the final season.
Whether Mike appreciates it or not, his life truly began at the firm, and he is the badass he is today, because of Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) who took a chance on him, and the rest of the people at the firm decided to stick out their neck for him. If not for Zane Specter Litt Wheeler Williams, he would still be the weed-smoking, aimless loser who was too scared to appear for the bar exam.
Even though he has decided to focus on taking the moral high road and leave the firm behind, one would expect him to help out during their time of need. While it is understandable that Mike is salty about Samantha’s illegal ways of winning against him, he still has a family at the firm. Beyond this, her actions got her fired. He surely got the memo.
Fans had hoped that when Mike returns – and when we say return, we mean far more than just an episode – he would stay around to ensure Harvey and Donna Paulsen (Sarah Rafferty) are okay. Even the usually poker-faced Harvey could hide his disappointment about Mike’s “out of sight, out of mind” attitude, and as he aptly pointed it out to his protégée, he returned only to challenge his mentor for a fight.
Seriously, Mike, we expected more from you!
That being said, the season is far from over, and the firm’s fight for survival is only just getting intense. While Samantha may have decided to focus on her personal life while things cool down, her work family is definitely not going to let bygones be bygones. They are looking for loopholes to get Faye Richardson (Denise Crosby) out.
Hopefully, Mike will return for another round and show us how deep his loyalty goes. Season 9 Episode 7 of ‘Suits’ which airs on Wednesday, September 4, is too soon for this to happen, especially since the episode is going to focus on the road trip that Samantha and Harvey take together.
However, you might want to pay attention to the episodes that come after ‘Scenic Route’ to see if Mike returns to save the day.
