NORTH RYDE, SYDNEY: A disturbing phone call from a listener left the producers and hosts of ‘The Kyle and Jackie O Show’ concerned. A man named Michael, who was heard on the program just after 6.30 am during hosts Kyle Sandilands and Jackie 'O' Henderson's ‘First Calls’ segment, sounded like a possible suicidal listener.

Kyle began the morning segment saying, "You want to ring up for anything? First Calls, 13 1065 will get you through. Michael has called in. Hey, Michael," as per DailyMail. "Hello," Michael replied. The radio host then asked Michael how he was, to which he responded, “Oh, not bad. I have a quick 10-second song I’d like to sing for you." "What, sorry? A song?" asked Kyle. "It goes like this," the man said, before singing the lyrics to 'Fade to Black' by heavy metal band Metallica. He started singing the track, which is about suicidal feelings, "Lost the will to live / Simply nothing more to give / There is nothing more for me / Need the end to set me free." Michael added his own line to the song, singing. “Never cared for no one else.” "Don't be like that..." said a confused Kyle before the caller abruptly hung up.

'That sounded like a goodbye song'

Jackie immediately turned to the producers, asking, “Is he all right? That didn’t sound good, guys. What were you getting off air? Because that sounded like a goodbye song to me.” Kyle said, "He seems fine," reassuring his co-host.

Listener 'gone rogue'

'Intern' Peter Deppeler, one of the show’s producers, said that Michael had seemed okay off air before the segment started. “He said, ‘I’m a comedian, I’ve got a few jokes to tell, I’ve got a new song,’” the producer said, adding that the listener had “gone rogue.” Jackie then requested Deppeler to “call him back and check he’s OK,” adding, “He just hung up and said this is the end for me. Just check he’s all right, that guy.” The presenters then moved on to the second caller, a woman named Debbie.

Police then got into the loop and started investigating. However, there are no further details available about the caller. A spokesperson for the show said, "During this morning’s show, we had concerns for the welfare of a caller. The police were immediately notified and are now looking into the matter."
