'Stranger Things' Season 4 fails to outclass 'Squid Game', becomes second most-watched Netflix series of all-time
Even though 'Stranger Things' Season 4 raked in large numbers in the first 28 days of its release, the show failed to get ahead of 'Squid Game'
It’s been almost a month that Season 4 of ‘Stranger Things’ has made its way to Netflix and the show is in no mood to stop as it continues to reign supreme on the streaming platform. The fourth edition of the sci-fi thriller went on a different route this time around and was a lot darker than the previous editions. That’s one of the reasons why Season 4 is receiving so much love from the viewers who are keeping the show at the number one position in so many countries.
According to the latest numbers, the ongoing season of ‘Stranger Things’ has broken another viewership record and become the 2nd most-watched series of all time on the streaming platform. Yes, you heard it right. Just under a month after making its highly anticipated premiere, the series had 781.04 million hours of viewing in the first 28 days of its release. In the process, the series edged past ‘Bridgerton’ Season 2 in becoming the most-watched English language series of all time. It is currently placed at the number one position in 93 countries.
In April 2022, it was announced that Season 2 of ‘Bridgerton’ had 656.26 million hours of watch time in the first 28 days of its release and reached the number one spot in 92 countries. It doesn’t come as a shock that ‘Stranger Things’ eclipsed ‘Bridgerton’ in the list because the Netflix sci-fi show had almost reached the halfway mark in the opening weekend itself.
Last week, the show had 159.24 million hours of watch time and reigned supreme on the streaming platform. Interestingly, Seasons 1, 2, and 3 of ‘Stranger Things’ are also on the Global Top 10 list.
Even though ‘Stranger Things’ Season 4 has managed to break several viewing records, the show couldn’t get past ‘Squid Game’ to become the most-watched Netflix series of all time. The Korean drama still holds the record of being the most-watched series ever on the streaming platform. The first season amassed 1.65 billion hours in the first 28 days of its release and was seen by more than 142 million households in the first four weeks from launch. The Korean drama has officially been renewed for a second season as well and fans have already anticipated that it will break its own viewership records once it arrives on Netflix.
As far as ‘Stranger Things’ is concerned, the show will be returning for the final two episodes of Season 4 on July 1. There is a lot of curiosity among the viewers as to what will happen at Hawkins in the last two episodes. The teaser of Volume 2 has revealed that Nancy, as of now, is safe and her friends have come to save her from Vecna’s wrath. However, things are looking really bleak for the entire gang because Vecna is in no mood to stop.
The only hope for the entire gang is Eleven, who, fortunately, has got her powers back. It will be interesting to see how Eleven comes back to save her friends from the devil. The season finale will be 2 hours and 19 minutes long, making it the longest episode in the show’s history. With the success of Volume 1, we can expect Volume 2 to put up impressive numbers as well.
Will it be able to challenge ‘Squid Game’? Well, let’s wait and watch.
