'Star Wars: The Clone Wars' Season 7: The Bad Batch was a mixed bag better suited for a game than the show

Spoiler alert for 'Star Wars: The Clone Wars' Season 7 Episode 1 'The Bad Batch'

Every action franchise has its own suicide squad. 'Transformers' has the Wreckers, DC Comics have Task Force X (the actual Suicide Squad), and now 'Star Wars' has Clone Force 99 aka the Bad Batch. The team of mutant clones was introduced in the first episode of the final season of 'Star Wars: The Clone Wars' and they're... a bit of a mixed bag.

For one thing, the Bad Batch is basically your generic black-ops squad. You've got your charismatic leader/tracker, the supersmart tech guy, a mostly unintelligent powerhouse, and a strong silent marksman, complete with a toothpick in his mouth.

The Bad Batch is undeniably effective at killing droids and completing the missions no one else can but while they're good soldiers, they're not exactly the best characters. Besides providing a distraction from Captain Rex (Dee Bradley Baker) and his brooding angst.

There's not much about the Bad Batch that's particularly unique or exciting but that said they're still somewhat interesting. While they might be a pretty cliche trope to put into the show, the Bad Batch would be an excellent addition to one of the 'Star Wars' videogames and if they do get a chance to enter the gaming world, we would be absolutely delighted to play it for hours on end.

But that said, the mutant clone super-force didn't exactly draw us in with their Episode 1 appearance on the animated series and in all probability, they're unlikely to be more than recurring characters for the show. However, perhaps some future appearance might be exactly what the Bad Batch needs to prove their worth as part of the greater world of the franchise.

'Star Wars: The Clone Wars' Season 7 drops new episodes every Friday only on Disney+.
