LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA: The family of Stanley Wilson Jr claims that police beat him before he died at a mental health facility. The family recently questioned the prior assertion that Wilson Jr tragically died on February 1 when he collapsed at the facility after viewing images of the former Detroit Lions' remains.

The family's attorney, John Carpenter, claimed during a news conference on Tuesday, March 14, that images of Wilson Jr's corpse demonstrate that he was the subject of excessive force just before he died. MEAWW has previously reported that Wilson Jr was taken into custody on August 24, 2022, on vandalism charges after being suspected of breaking into and raiding a home in the Hollywood Hills of Los Angeles. He was also said to have bathed in the property's fountain. Prosecution stated that Wilson was transferred to the mental health hospital after being deemed ineligible to face trial. Wilson Jr, who played in the NFL from 2005 to 2007, was only 40 years old when he died, and the results of his autopsy have not yet been provided to his attorney. There was reportedly no indication of foul play at the time of his death.

'It's stark contrast to what we've been hearing'

At a news conference on Tuesday, March 14, Carpenter stated, "It's stark contrast to what we've been hearing from the county regarding the circumstances," according to TMZ. Carpenter requested $45 million in damages in three lawsuits he filed against Los Angeles County on Tuesday, March 14, one for his estate and one for each of his parents.

Wilson's mother was informed by county officials that he fell from a chair and collapsed, but Carpenter claims that the wounds on Wilson's head appear to be the result of being kicked or stomped, and the wounds on his hands and wrists suggest that he was handcuffed.

'As they should'

On Twitter, several individuals reacted to the Wilson Jr family's claim with one person writing, "And here we go AGAIN... let's see if those body cams mysteriously were not working that day." Another person wrote, "As they should." A third individual wrote, "If he died he died." The individual who brought up Ben Crump, who has defended the families of wrongful death victims, wrote, "Hmmm... they must have been contacted by Ben Crump..."
