A domestic plane carrying passengers that took off from Jakarta, Indonesia, has reportedly gone missing minutes after taking off. The Boeing 737-500 reportedly lost contact after flying a short distance above the Java Sea. A few reports have suggested that the Sriwijaya Air Plane plummeted by 10,000 feet in less than 60 seconds just minutes after its departure.

As per South Morning Post reports, the flight was carrying 56 passengers and six crew members. Flightradar24 tweeted, "Sriwijaya Air flight #SJ182 lost more than 10.000 feet of altitude in less than one minute, about 4 minutes after departure from Jakarta."



 

A series of a tweet shared by the air traffic monitoring website has revealed that the contact with the flight was lost at 07:40:27 UTC. The tweet reads, "ADS-B signal from flight #SJ182 was lost at 07:40:27 UTC time. The flight was en route from Jakarta to Pontianak in Indonesia."



 

According to Independent UK, the 452-mile flight is scheduled to take 95 minutes. The Indonesian Transport Ministry spokesperson, Adita Irawaiti said in a statement, "At this point, we are investigating and coordinating the matter with Basarnas (the search and rescue agency) and KNKT (the transport safety body). We will release more information as soon as there are developments.”

The news regarding the disappearance of the Sriwijaya flight has gathered a lot of attention on social media as more and more people are surfacing on Twitter, praying for the rescue and safety of the people aboard. 

One social media user tweeted, "Sriwijaya aircraft #SJ182 goes missing shortly after take off from Jakarta The Boeing 737-500 plane lost more than 10,000 ft altitude in less than a min before disappearing from radar Prayers with the passengers & crew members." While another added, "Bad start of 2021: Indonesia Boeing 737-500 of Sriwijaya Air loses contact minutes after taking off from Jakarta May Allah keep everyone safe." Another tweeted, "Sending my deepest prayers for all passengers and cabin crews of Sriwijaya #SJ182. The flight was from Jakarta to Pontianak with around 59 passengers. Let's pray for them.
