'Sleep divorce' is trending on social media. In order to improve each partner's quality of sleep, experts define sleep divorce as when couples sleep in different beds or rooms. Many couples are choosing to follow this new trend.
According to experts, there are a number of reasons why couples choose to sleep in separate beds or bedrooms, such as snoring that disrupts sleep, varying wake-up hours, or various preferences for the night, such as temperature or light levels. Benefits of sleep divorce
According to Dr Erin Flynn-Evans, a sleep medicine specialist for the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, "some partners can benefit from sleeping separately." According to studies, when one bed partner has trouble sleeping, it can have a major impact on the other spouse's ability to sleep. For example, having a partner who is a night owl and another who is an early bird can be detrimental to both of their sleep patterns.

On the other side, Flynn-Evans noted that because sleep specialists rely on bed companions' accounts to identify individuals with sleep disorders, sleeping with your partner can help you discover any abnormalities you may have been unaware of.
Does sleep divorce improve relationship with your partner?
There is no conclusive research that shows if sleeping apart from your partner could improve or weaken your relationship. However, according to experts, getting a good night sleep can improve your mood and health, which can help you stay positive and result in healthier relationship with your spouse.

Flynn-Evans also stated that sleeping in the same bed is better, as it releases oxytocin and other chemicals that bring us closer to each other. Sleeping separately should not be the solution if a partner is having sleep trouble. Couples should be honest with themselves and seek treatment from a professional to identify sleep disorders.
Katherine Hertlein, a professor in the couple and family therapy program at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, said that they have doubts about sleeping divorce, and a survey conducted by the International Housewares Association found that 50% of couples reported no or positive impact on their relationship, DeseretNews reported.
