'Skin Decision: Before and After': Transman seeks gender transition help from Dr Sheila Nazarian and Nurse Jamie
Episode 4 of 'Skin Decision: Before and After' focused on the story of Atticus, a transman, whose biggest goal was to go through the journey of his transition that he began two years ago. He came in to seek the help of Dr Sheila Nazarian, a board-certified plastic surgeon from Beverly Hills and Nurse Jamie, aesthetician to many celebrities. Atticus said his biggest dream was to take his shirt off in public and feel the sun rays on his chest while on the beach. Nazarian and Jamie were excited to help Atticus in his journey.
Atticus was assigned the female gender at birth. He revealed that at six he was still living as Jessica and an incident while at the pool made him realize that something was off. He reminisced the incident where one moment he was splashing around freely around the pool with no shirt on and the next moment he was asked to cover himself up and how it felt wrong. With everything that he's gone through, Atticus has no regrets about his life as Jessica. He acknowledged the fact he exists only because of his past entity.
Speaking to Nazarian and Jamie about what brought him to the lab, Atticus said, "Every morning I wake up and the first thing I think about is 'are people going to notice that I have breasts instead of a flat chest' even though I am covered and have a small chest." He really wished to go through with his top surgery with less to no scarring if possible. As to how this transition would change his life, Atticus said, "I already feel whole. The facial hair, my voice, all these things I dreamed about as a kid is happening and I am passing as male. I know I am getting checked out, I am not going to lie so I am already feeling the confidence and this is just going to push me by leaps and bounds."
To help him match the outsides with how he feels inside, Jamie and Nazarian implemented a mix of surgical and non-surgical techniques. Nazarian operated on him to take out his glandular tissues in his breast as well as transfer all the fat to build on his pec muscle for a more masculine appearance. Jamie used derma fillers to carve out his jaw and his cheekbones to make his face look stronger.
