'Not exactly a picnic': Raquel Welch was afraid of aging, looked unrecognizable in last pics before death
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Sixties sex siren Raquel Welch died peacefully at the age of 82 on Tuesday, February 15. She was a well known actress and is considered Hollywood royalty with her work on movies such as ‘One Million Years BC’ and ‘Fantastic Voyage’ bringing her worldwide fame. She even won a Golden Globe in 1973 for her performance in ‘The Three Musketeers.’ However, despite her accolades and stunning acting career, there was something that Welch had been terribly afraid of - aging.
Welch is remembered for her strikingly gorgeous looks and it was this that made her fear the natural process. Welch had opened up about it as well, saying that she hated growing older and losing her good looks as she aged. As the years passed by, Welch had been terribly conscious of her fading youth. She had gone off the radar for a long time and when she was spotted again on the streets, she looked unrecognizable. Fans had taken to social media to express their shock at how different the actress looked from back when she was younger. Many had taken to commenting on her weight gain, assuming it had to do with her medications.

"To be an aging sex symbol is not exactly a picnic. If you're called old, you feel like it's over,” Welch had famously said about her fear of aging. She had mentioned that things took a turn for the worse when she started to experience mood swings, depression and a huge lack of energy. She also said that she spent a lot of her time crying on the floor and attributed it to her aging, according to a report by Amomama.
Coming to terms with the aging process
Welch however had gone on to come to terms with the aging process as the years went by. "But if you can't have fun as an ageing sex symbol when you hit 60, I don't know what will become of you,” she said. The actress had taken up hormone treatments to help with the effects of menopause and had also managed to grow into herself as she aged by thinking positive thoughts.
"Then you pass a mirror, and you say, 'Uh-oh, that face ain't gonna launch a thousand ships, and that bod's not so hot either.' Nobody can be the most beautiful girl in the world. It's just fairy-tale time,” she said about looks deteriorating with age.
