‘Sistas’ Season 2 Episode 4 Review: Danni's 'slave play' meltdown caught viewers off guard, was it too much?
Spoilers for 'Sistas' Season 2
Episode 4 'Trying to Stay Open' was packed with a bit of drama - Zac (Devale Ellis) ends up breaking into the hotel room when Karen Mott (Ebony Obsidian) and Aaron Carter (Kevin A Walton) were having sex and then gets arrested, Andrea "Andi" Barnes (KJ Smith) gets out of bed and makes moves on Don Bellamy (Michael King) who had framed her and the one that caught us off guard was when Daniella "Danni" King (Mignon) called out Preston Horace (Trinity Whiteside) on what she thought was slave play when he handcuffed her to a bed. The season has been so focused on the FBI case against Gary Marshall Borders (Chido Nwokocha) and Andi, that most times the other couples don't get enough screen time. Even in this episode, Danni and Preston didn't get too much either, but the five minutes they were on screen, definitely weren't great ones.
Danni has always tried her best to make sure Preston doesn't get too close to her. Although she likes him, it almost seems like he was putting in more effort than she was. If you remember, fans were amused at one of the scenes where Danni had Preston in handcuffs. In this episode, we see Danni waking him with a sheet covering her and she's handcuffed as well. Preston tells her the tables have turned even though she was asking to be uncuffed because she had to use the bathroom. He jokingly gave her a pot to pee in.
In the playful back and forth, Preston ends up sating, "I'm gonna need you to beg me. Beg me Gal," which offended Danni and her attitude changed when she asked him to immediately uncuff her. After he brought her the key, she told him that while he's always told her that his family was racist, how could he be so ignorant? How could he stand over her when she was naked and cuffed, give her a pot to piss it and then call her gal. Running to the bathroom pissed, Danni asked herself, "Was that slave play?" and was about to walk out to tell him that she's not the type of girl that does that, only to find that he had left the apartment.
Now, while we know that racist attitudes or any slurs regarding slaves aren't something to be taken for granted, we also thought that Danni was reaching with this one. We're sure that Preston meant no harm, which he tried to explain, but we do understand where Danni comes from. If the goal was to pursue the race dynamics between Danni and Preston, we don't think that this was a way to do it. It was honestly too much and Danni took it too far.
Fans too were quite confused with Danni's reaction, and quite frankly, her hypocrisy in the race matter. "Oh gosh Preston did nothing wrong. He was playing. Preston isn't racist I don't understand why Danni is ok with the N-word but what Preston did was too much. Slaves were called the N-word too #SistasOnBET," wrote one fan. Another fan too, called her out, saying, "I think Danni realized that she is messing up shit with Preston. How can she get mad at him for handcuffing him when she did it to him first?? Come on girrl! I'm rooting for you and that fine ass white chocolate! #SistasOnBET."
Oh gosh 🙄

It seems as though Danni's finding every excuse to push Preston away, and this we feel could be his last straw. "If Preston decides to no longer see Danni, I'd support his decision TOTALLY. Because her emotional volatility and hot-cold mentality, have both become almost impossible for him to deal with and he deserves better. Thus — we need her to be more calm and optimistic. #SistasOnBET," wrote another fan.
We would hope that Danni and Preston would communicate and speak about their boundaries because Preston doesn't seem to know what would hurt Danni. Her hurt is valid, don't get us wrong, but she needs to understand that Preston isn't racist, and didn't mean anything by what he did. He in fact, literally, copied what she had done to him. "Danni is doing too much now. Take into context the EXTRA COUNTRY cowboy you're dating, plus the fact that you handcuffed him first and didn't want him to get up. He literally did the same thing she did. Her insecurities and paranoia over her own joke will ruin this. #SistasonBET," wrote another fan.

We really want Preston and Danni to work out, but Danni needs to open up to him, even if it means that they would fight. Preston seems to always be going uphill when it comes to Danni, and nothing he does seems to impress her. The man is really trying, and we feel Danni jumps to conclusions too quickly, and that's no joke when it comes to racism.
'Sistas' Season 2 airs on Wednesdays on BET at 9 pm EST.
