Tragedy overtakes 2 children who slept next to parents' bodies for 3 DAYS after they died eating poisoned pickles
BOLSHOYE KUZOMLINO, RUSSIA: In a shocking incident, a five-year-old girl was left all alone with her 1-year-old baby brother after their parents died from eating poisoned pickles. The parents were discovered three days after they died, in October 2020, leaving the two children to fend for themselves.
The unfortunate incident led to the young children sleeping beside the lifeless bodies of their parents Alexander Yakunin 30, and Viktoria, 25 for three days. Their deaths came to light only when family members grew concerned when they did not hear from the couple. They had missed a family gathering, after which family members made a phone call to their home in Bolshoye Kuzomkino.

According to the Sun, the couple's 5-year-old daughter picked up, saying that her parents were sleeping for a long time, and mentioned how her father's body had "turned all black." She also revealed that she had been looking after her 1-year-old brother.
The call led to Alexander's sister, Natalia Bakulina, rushing to the couple's apartment, after which the little girl let her aunt inside the house. Recalling the horrific scene she witnessed, 36-year-old Natalia said, "I ran in… and saw everything," seeing the bodies of her brother and her sister-in-law lying lifeless. The exact cause of death for the gas plant worker and his wife is not known. However, a jar of homemade pickles was found open in the kitchen, and it is believed that the pickles led to severe food poisoning. The day before they passed away, the pickles were given to Alexander by his grandmother. As per the Sun, it is suspected that the botulinum toxin from the pickles might be the reason this happened, botulinum toxin leads to paralysis, and in extreme cases, it can even cause respiratory failure and lead to death.
The possibility that alcohol poisoning killed the parents is unlikely, as one of the couple's neighbors, Mikhail Khomchenko revealed that Alexander and Viktoria did not drink alcohol. The neighbor described them as the "perfect couple" and said, "I have only positive feelings about them." As the family was struck by the untimely deaths of the young couple, Viktoria's mum Galina Yasturbenko told 78.ru, as quoted by The Sun, "They said we must bury them in sealed coffins. We are shocked. Nobody knows what happened."
Meanwhile, the children, the 5-year-old girl and her 1-year-old brother, are under the care of Alexander's father.
