26-year-old influencer Nimisha Verma, who is a metaphysical anatomy practitioner, has drawn flak after she posted an Instagram story saying she was on her periods while scuba diving but had no pad on. She wrote, “Btw. I began bleeding the morning I was supposed to dive. So I actually didn’t wear even a single pad on my whole trip. I kept free bleeding.”

Following this, many were quick to bash her with one saying, "Give us a menstrual leave so we could pollute water and spread infections." Another wrote, "Was that supposed to be a flex?" Meanwhile, many called the revelation "disgusting."

'I hope she doesn't get infected'

An individual wrote, "Hygiene & everything aside, I wonder how was she even comfortable doing that herself. My mind won't be able to concentrate on other things, if I know I'm bleeding & there's nothing that's soaking it." Another wrote, "She should do a public service by announcing wherever she is going in advance so that others can avoid her at any cost." On the other hand, some showed concern. A user said, "I hope she doesn't get infected."

'Menstrual blood is at least biodegradable waste'

Though many continued to bash her, there were also some who came to the woman's defense. One of them wrote, "Your blood flow temporarily slows down and in many cases even stops under water so your concern about her causing pollution is absolutely baseless. Moreover, even if there is a little bit of leakage it's a bloody ocean it's gonna get diluted in seconds." Another shared points to defend Nimisha by saying, "1.Water pressure reduces the flow of blood. 2. We pollute land by our sanitary waste anyway. 3. 60-70 ml of blood is lost during the entire menstruation period. Divide it by 5 days, divide it by 1-2hours (diving session). I don't think 0.5ML of blood will pollute our oceans." Someone else said, "I am pretty sure ocean water has much more infectious stuff polluting it from all different sources like excretion from all sea organisms, rivers bringing in pollution from sewer lines, oil and other toxic substances dissolved etc. Menstrual blood is atleast biodegradable waste." A person added, "Not an expert but if that were the case, then the ocean would've already been polluted by the huge amount of biological waste it holds of the animals underneath, including blood, carcasses and excreta." While one asked, "That’s some deep-rooted misogyny. As long as she doesn’t stand in front of a box fan & spray it at people, what’s the issue?" "Sharks," replied one.
