'Sharkfest': Release date, episodes and all you need to know about the annual shark marathon on National Geographic and Nat Geo WILD

National Geographic and Nat Geo WILD will premiere the annual fan-favorite 'Sharkfest' in its eighth consecutive year. This year's shark spectacular from the networks' massive library boasts an impressive line-up of 17 original specials. It will feature some of the best and innovation details on sharks including research and conservation. Here is everything you need to know about it.

Release date

The 'Sharkfest' marathon is slated to air an encore for a period of five weeks starting July 19 on National Geographic and Nat Geo WILD.

World's Biggest Tiger Shark — Series premiere,  July 19 at 9/8 c: Marine Biologist, Kori Garza, and Emmy Award-winning underwater cinematographer Andy Casagrande travel to French Polynesia. Home to one of the largest living tiger sharks, the Kamakai or the 'Tigers of Tahiti' is captured on tape for the first time ever.  

When Sharks Attack — July 20 at 9/8 c: The episode will probe into incidents of shark attacks and try to understand their behavior to limit them in the future.

Sharks vs. Dolphins: Blood Battle — July 20 at 10/9 c: The special delves into the long-standing battle between two creatures that share a common oceanic habitat, sharks, and dolphins. A team of experts travels to Shark Bay, Australia to research into the complex relationship between the two marine rivals.

Sharkcano — July 21 at 10/9 c: Famed shark-scientist Dr Michael Heithaus travels across the world to delve into the mysterious link between sharks and volcanoes. 

Secrets of the Bull Shark — July 22 at 10/9c: Very little is known about one of the most dangerous shark species, the Bull Shark. In this special, Marine Biologist Dr Ryan Daly and a team of scientists examine the secrets of top predators and learn about their migration and hunting patterns. 

Most Wanted Sharks — July 23 at 10/9 c: Marine biologist and shark-suit inventor Jeremiah Sullivan gauges the sensational stories of some fascinating sharks.

50 Shades of Sharks — July 24 at 10/9c: The mainstream perception of sharks has long been conceived as being vicious, calculating, and dangerous predators of the ocean. This special focuses on the undiscovered and most intimate, rarely-seen behavioral patterns from new shark research.

Raging Bull Shark — July 26 at 8/7c: As climate change alters water temperature, the bull sharks expand their territory leading to a significant increase in attacks. In this special, a team of experts surveys bull sharks as they butt heads with some of the other fiercer shark species, including great whites and tiger sharks.

Sharks of the Bermuda Triangle — July 27 at 10/9c: The Bermuda Triangle is one among the world's greatest mysteries made famous by stories of missing airplanes, sunken ships, malfunctioning compasses and legends like that of the ancient underwater city of Atlantis. However, the area is also predominantly a habitat to sharks. Marine Biologist Dr Austin Gallagher tracks an elusive tiger shark to uncover the mysterious hotspot.

Shark vs. Whale — July 28 at 10/9 c: The special studies the behavioral patterns of the humpback whale, while Dr Ryan Johnson, a marine biologist focuses his research on great white sharks being whale killers. 

What the Shark? — Jul 29 at 10/9c: Centering on a side of sharks that is seldom-seen, this special explores their habitats from shallow water to 8,000-foot abysses where extreme adaptation is critical to survival. It will gauge the predator's behavior and hunting tactics in an atmosphere of high-pressure levels that could be a threat to a shark's survival. 

Shark vs. Surfer - August  2 at 8/7 c: A look at shark-infested surf spots around the world, Dr Ryan Johnson and fellow marine biologist, Dr Steven Kajura look into the increase in shark attacks that have surfers perturbed.
