SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA: Wells Fargo has taken action against one of its employees after the person was accused of peeing on an elderly woman. Shankar Mishra was reportedly working for the banking giant as its vice president of operations in India when the incident happened mid-air on an Air India flight from New York to New Delhi in November.

Now, in a statement to DailyMail.com, Wells Fargo said it “holds employees to the highest standards of professional and personal behavior and we find these allegations deeply disturbing,” before adding Shankar’s employment has been “terminated.”

As per reports, during the November 26 episode, the 34-year-old man indulged in heavy drinking and went on to urinate on the 72-year-old woman in the New York-Delhi plane. He was then forced by the crew members to apologize to the woman. Also, later, through his attorneys, he apparently claimed to pay some money as compensation for his act. The alleged victim, however, gave back the money and complained to Air India. In her complaint to the airline against Shankar, the woman reportedly said, “I was stunned when he started crying and profusely apologizing to me, begging me not to lodge a complaint against him because he is a family man and did not want his wife and child to be affected by this incident. In my already distraught state, I was further disoriented by being made to confront and negotiate with the perpetrator of the horrific incident at close quarters.”

She added, “I told him his actions were inexcusable, but in the face of his pleading and begging in front of me, and my own shock and trauma, I found it difficult to insist on his arrest or to press charges against him.” Besides, the Indian civil aviation regulatory body, Directorate of General Civil Aviation, also slammed Air India by saying, “The conduct of the concerned airline appears to be unprofessional and has led to a systemic failure.”

Judicial custody for accused

Meanwhile, it has been said that on Friday, January 6, Shankar was finally arrested in the south Indian city of Bengaluru after being on run for days. He has reportedly been ordered to be in judicial custody for two weeks as the probe into the case continues. The accused is reportedly facing charges under 294 (obscene act in a public place), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 509 (word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 510 (misconduct in public by a drunken person) of the Indian Penal Code, as well as charges under Aircraft Rules.

Earlier, Shankar’s father Shyam Mishra had asserted his son’s innocence. In an interview with India Today TV, he said, “This is a totally false case. My son was traveling from the US. He had not slept for 72 hours. He might have taken a drink on the flight and slept. What happened after that even he does not know. It's very difficult to prove.” Shyam continued, “I don't think he would have done this[urinating on the woman]. The woman is 72-years-old, she is like a mother to him,” before stating no one saw what exactly happened that day.
