Seth Meyers mocks gag order issued against Trump with spot-on impression of former POTUS on NBC's 'Late Night'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Seth Meyers made fun of Donald Trump on Wednesday, October 4 after the former president received a gag order in his civil fraud trial after he insulted a court staffer on social media.
The 'Late Night' anchor on NBC pictured Trump grossly misinterpreting the judge's decision.
"It’s very possible Trump misunderstood the meaning of the word gag," stated Meyers, who recently received praise for his breathless segment during his debut show following the five-month break because of the writers' strike.
Judge Arthur Engoron had imposed the gag order on Donald Trump after the former president insulted the judge's legal clerk on his social media site, Truth Social.
Donald Trump targets Judge Arthur Engoron's clerk
Donald Trump had targeted Judge Arthur Engoron's clerk, Allison Greenfield, in a tweet on his social media platform, Truth Social.
In the now-deleted tweet, he published a photo of Greenfield with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and demanded that the case against him be dropped because of the photo.
"Schumer's girlfriend, Alison R Greenfield, is running this case against me," he tweeted. "How disgraceful! This case should be dismissed immediately!!" he added.
However, except for this instance of them posing for a photo together, there is no indication of any kind of romantic relationship between Schumer and Greenfield, per Newsweek.
Judge issues gag order against Donald Trump
The judge ruled that insulting court employees personally was improper and unacceptable. Any disobedience of the order would result in harsh penalties, he stated.
"This morning one of the defendants posted on (a) social media account a disparaging untrue and personally identifying post about a member of my staff. Although I have since ordered the post deleted and apparently it was, it was also emailed out to millions of other recipients," the judge said in court.
Personal attacks on members of his court staff, according to the judge, are undesirable and unprofessional. He threatened severe punishment for any violators of the directive.
"Personal attacks of any member of my court staff are unacceptable, inappropriate and I will not tolerate them," said the judge, per CNN.
Trump was instructed to erase the posting, and it was later removed from his social networking site. The order reportedly prohibits all parties from blogging, emailing, or speaking publicly about any members of the judge's staff.
Seth Meyers mocks Trump's gag order
Meyers stepped into character as Trump after saying Trump "misunderstood the word gag."
"So now your dear former president can’t do gags, can’t do pranks, can’t do goofs at any time. So now, if I tell you pull my finger, I have to legally add, 'When you do it, I’m going to fart.' And that’s sad because that takes all the fun out of it."
