Sery Kim, a former official in the Trump administration who is now running in the 6th Congressional District of Texas, has shocked many with her controversial and racist comments about potential Chinese immigrants. Kim, who herself hails from a family of South Korean immigrants, remarked that Chinese immigrants should be prohibited from entering the USA since they would bring COVID-19 and also 'steal' the country's intellectual property. "

"I don't want them here at all. They steal our intellectual property, they give us coronavirus, they don't hold themselves accountable," the GOP leader said, according to a Newsweek report. She also added, "And quite frankly, I can say that because I'm Korean."

Kim's comments come at a time when the country is still reeling from the recent horrific mass shooting targeting Asian-Americans in Atlanta. Amid the rising concerns about racism and hatred against Asian-Americans, her comments have kicked up a storm of criticism.

Who is Sery Kim?

Born in South Korea on April 26, 1978, Sery Kim immigrated to the U.S. with her family in her childhood. She grew up in Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex where she was also naturalized as a U.S. Citizen. On her website, Kim mentions the struggles her parents faced to pursue the 'American dream'.

"I have seen the countless sacrifices they made while they cleaned other people’s bathrooms, emptied trash cans in office buildings as I slept on the couches … often working 2 or 3 jobs each to put food on the table and pay rent so I would be able to fulfill my potential," she wrote about her parents.

A graduate of the University of Texas Austin School of Law, Kim was an attorney by profession. She worked with a major international law firm in Texas, where she provided legal analysis on complex litigation cases.

During Donald Trump's presidency, Kim was appointed by Trump as the Assistant Administrator for the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) for the Office of Women's Business Ownership (OWBO). Prior to that, she served in the Department of Health and Human Services under President George W. Bush.

Her hobby is to freelance as a food-travel-lifestyle blogger. She has worked with NBC Washington, DC, and appeared on shows airing on ABC, CBS, and FOX News. She has also written for publications like The Daily Telegraph, FOX News National Lifestyle, U.S. News and World Report Travel, Forbes Travel Guide, MSN, Huffington Post, and MONEY Inc.

In personal life, Kim is engaged to Mike Cybulski, an active duty Major in the United States Marine Corps.

"The hateful rhetoric by Sery Kim is shocking"

Sery Kim has earned severe backlash on social media for her offensive commentary on the Chinese.

"The hateful rhetoric by Sery Kim is shocking, but it is unsurprising. Trump Republicans often scapegoat Asian Americans because they would rather place blame than get things done," one user said about her.

"Wow. Just scrolled through Sery Kim’s timeline and she is clearly a racist piece of sh*t. I can say that because I’m an American," another user attacked her.

One user tweeted, "I say you are a racist Sery Kim and I can say that because I’m a decent human being," while another called her out, "As a Korean-American and a Texan, I'm appalled by what Sery Kim said about Chinese immigrants on Wednesday. Just because you can distinguish your racist remarks to a specific set of Asians, doesn't mean other racists can!"

Following the backlash, Sery Kim retaliated with a series of tweets, alleging that she has been targeted by the liberal media.

"I am shocked that in an effort to counter Asian-American hate the liberal media is targeting me, an Asian and an immigrant, in an effort to paint me as anti-Asian & anti-immigrant just for speaking against the oppressive Chinese Communist Party," she tweeted out to several publications which reported her offensive remarks.

She also defended her remarks against the Chinese Communist Party in a series of follow-up tweets.
