Spoilers for 'Selena: The Series'

On December 4, 2020, Netflix released nine episodes of 'Selena: The Series' with Christian Serratos starring as the legendary Tejano singer, Selena Quintanilla. The series had mixed reviews when it released, but the biographical series places its focus on a slower storytelling concept as we are yet to see her marriage and death in the nine available episodes. According to reports, the series if "officially" a "two-part limited series"

Release date

Los Angeles Times interviews with star marriage revealed that Part 2 of 'Selena: The Series' had wrapped up filming. The series will be released on May 14, 2021.

Plot

Season 1 of the series covered parts of Selena Quintanilla's younger life until 'Ven Conmigo' her second album released in 1990. Since the last episode on the series ends with Chris Perez (Jesse Posey) being fired by Abraham Quintanilla (Ricardo Chavira), we're assuming that season 2 will speak about her secret marriage to her bandmate, and how Yolanda Saldivar murdered her - Natasha Perez plays Saldivar in the series. Serratos told OprahMag.com, that the second part of the series will focus on the singer since the first part spoke of her childhood and first days in stardom. "The first part was nerve-racking because there was less footage for me to base my performance on. But at the same time, it was more relaxed because I got more liberty. People don't know that version of Selena very much. Our second part we're going to see a lot more of the icon. I had a lot more to base the performance on—but it was nerve-racking because people know that Selena so well. There was added pressure." Turns out that it's true that the second part would be more about the singer because according to what Serratos told  Los Angeles Times, she's trying her best to recreate the icons - "For season 2, I was like, 'I want to do it. Selena did her own makeup, I’m doing my own makeup,'" the actress said.

While we know that the real Selena died at the young age of 23, according to Perez, the season won't bear too much of that burden - she said that the series was a "celebration of Selena's life and not about her death" - "The series isn't about her death. Yolanda is there to add tension to what's going on, but what's going on is so beautiful because it's an artist finding herself, an artist emerging and finding her place within her family, and society. Everyone was very careful with how it was all handled. Unfortunately, Yolanda is a part of Selena's tragic story. But the beauty of it all is how her legacy continues until today through her music, her art, and really, her whole life. Thanks to her, we can have this conversation today and celebrate a show about a Latina, starring and written by Latinos. It's a beautiful thing," explained the actress.

According to the official synopsis released by Netflix for the first part, the series is "a coming-of-age story following Selena as her dreams come true and all the heart-wrenching and life-changing choices she and her family have to make as they navigate success, family, and music."

The cast that we were left off with in Part 1 will most likley reprise their roles for the series Part 2 – Christian Serratos as Selena Quintanilla, Ricardo Chavira as Abraham Quintanilla, Jesse Posey as  Chris Perez, Seidy Lopez as Marcella Quintanilla, Noemi Gonzalez as Suzette Quintanilla, Gabriel Chavarria as A.B.
